TIELT, BELGIUM – September, 2004 – A crane’s ability to efficiently and safely position its load requires a virtual absence of vibration during both fine and gross movements of the boom. Lubrication of moving parts helps to achieve this, but more and more, heavy equipment manufacturers are searching for lubrication-free materials that minimize or even eliminate stick-slip influences during operation. The Fassi Group, one of Europe’s foremost manufacturers of hydraulic cranes, found its material solution in NYLATRON® 703 XL plate from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP).

TIELT, BELGIUM – September 2004 – An industrial process is only as efficient as the tools used to implement it. Bearings used in extreme conditions, such as prolonged contact with aggressive chemicals or abrasion-sensitive components, or under heavy mechanical loads, can no longer be lubricated once they are installed and the process is in operation. For DE SMET Group, S.A. of Brussels, Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP) provides a solution to this problem with their new TECHTRON® HPV PPS material for bearings used in an extraction installation.

New initiatives in wire & cable coating materials are announced by DSM Engineering Plastics, a business group within the DSM N.V. (Euronext Amsterdam:DSM) Performance Materials cluster. In addition to its existing family of Arnitel® copolyether-ester and copolyester-ester (COPE or TEEE) elastomeric wire coating materials, DSM is developing new grades for this segment. As well, the assignment of Francis Aussems as Application Development and Technical Service Manager with special focus on wire applications provides a dedicated resource to the wire and cable segment.

Invisible connections are in demand today whenever both an attractive finish and a permanent bond are required, for example for exhibition and shop-fitting constructions, for decorations or signage. Two established products with a new twist are now the ones to look for if you need these properties – the 3M Dual Lock flexible pressure seal and the 3M Scotchmate hook and loop tape.

DSM Engineering Plastics announces the availability of a new grade of high-flow Stanyl® polyamide 46 (PA46) designed for elements of aircraft jet engines. Stanyl 46HF4130 is a 30-percent glass-fibre-reinforced compound that was initially developed for use in the intake portion of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine, engineered for noise reduction and minimum environmental impact. The engine uses 50 panels with highly complex geometry to minimize noise through a complex section of the engine duct, benefiting from Stanyl’s high strength and moldability.
