High-Temp, Ultra-Tough Ultem* FR Resin from SABIC Innovative Plastics Helps Launch New ActiFry® Low-Fat Deep Fryer with Sizzling Speed
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – March 18, 2010 – SABIC Innovative Plastics’ Ultem* polyetherimide (PEI) resin turned up the heat to support the successful U.S. launch of Groupe SEB®’s T-fal® ActiFry® low-fat deep fryer. In the face of toughening food contact regulations for the appliance’s fryer basket in the United States, the French manufacturer turned to SABIC Innovative Plastics for a material offering regulatory compliance as well as color customization, excellent high-temperature resistance and the freedom to integrate parts for system cost reduction. As the only available material meeting all these requirements under a tight launch window, Ultem resin enabled Groupe SEB to design an ActiFry model appropriate for the U.S. market. SABIC Innovative Plastics, renowned for working side-by-side with customers in various industries to help them achieve business success, is now actively supplying innovative, high-performance materials to the food service and processing industry.

Next-generation polypropylene clarifying agent set to give premium container maker a new edge

Quadrant’s range of enhanced PTFE materials available in full production sizes has been broadened with the addition of two new grades: Fluorosint HPV and Fluorosint MT-01. FDA compliant Fluorosint HPV is a mica-filled high performance bearing grade that can deliver a pressure velocity (PV) performance improvement of more than 40 % over other PTFE materials according to in-house tests conducted by Quadrant.. Parts made of Fluorosint HPV can withstand higher load and velocity while delivering better wear resistance, enabling longer part life compared to existing FDA compliant PTFE-based materials. The product was especially developed to meet the demands of high performance bearing applications where other, low-tech PTFE formulations would exhibit premature wear or can not perform. These characteristics together with FDA compliancy for food and pharmaceutical applications open up interesting new options for engineers and manufacturers.
