Clariant’s Exolit® OP 560 confirmed as safer flame retardant for PU foam
Muttenz, October 3, 2014 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, confirms good news for the upholstery industry and other sectors looking for safer, environmentally more compatible flame retardants that meet internationally accepted flammability standards3 for flexible polyurethane foam. In its draft Alternatives Assessment report1 on flame retardants in flexible foam released in June2, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified Clariant’s oligomeric phosphonate polyol (OPP) flame retardant - marketed under the trade name Exolit® OP 560 – as a safer alternative to pentabromo diphenylether (pentaBDE), traditionally used for giving fire protection to foam.
Nederland, 23 september 2014 - Rederij Cornelis Vrolijk in IJmuiden en dochteronderneming Jaczon in Scheveningen zijn gespecialiseerd in de pelagische visserij. De visnetten aan boord van hun trawlers, die worden ingezet voor het vangen van pelagische (scholende) soorten, worden traditioneel van nylon gemaakt. Cornelis Vrolijk en Jaczon zijn nu bezig hun nylon netten te vervangen door netten met DSM’s lichte en supersterke UHMwPE-vezel (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene), bekend onder de merknaam Dyneema®.

With its first-class combustion properties, sunliquid® 20 improves engine efficiency so that its 4% lesser energy content, as compared to E10, is more than compensated. For drivers, this means: with sunliquid® 20, the sustainability of the fuel (reduced CO2 emissions) is increased significantly whilst consumption remains the same.

Following two years of procedures, the official trademark authorities in South Korea, Canada, EU and the USA have all accepted DSM Dyneema's opposition and rejected the application.
