Belden Increases the Flexibility of Its Modular Industrial Patch Panel Range by Adding New Modules
Venlo, The Netherlands – March 6, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has extended its Modular Industrial Patch Panel (MIPP) product range by adding new modules. The MIPP, a termination panel for cables that need to be connected to active equipment such as switches, Industrial Ethernet devices and any other device with an Ethernet link, offers greater system reliability and ease of installation. The MIPP provides the ideal connection between Belden cables and Hirschmann switches and is designed to have the same look and feel as the Hirschmann range of products.

Belden Extends its Lumberg Automation LioN-R Series
Schalksmühle, Germany – February 21, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has extended its Lumberg Automation product program in the EMEA region to include three new I/O modules featuring industrial protection class IP67. They provide secure connection between actuators/sensors and control units even under the harshest environmental conditions. Providing additional support for real-time (RT) and isochronous real-time (IRT) communication, the modules offer 16 digital channels configured as inputs, outputs or a combination of both. All versions come with an encapsulated metal housing, vibration-resistant M12 connection technology, and short-circuit proof outputs. Galvanic separation between the I/O channels and the LAN connection ensures reliable data transmission. The behavior of output channels in the event of a fault can be defined via a fail-safe function. What's more, the easy diagnostics concept allows faults to be located swiftly. An integrated dual-port switch (10/100 Mbit/s) allows both line and ring topologies.

This modular switch for DIN rail mounting offers comprehensive network protection for the first time. The switch incorporates security mechanisms that regulate network access and protect against attacks. These include port security, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, IP Source Guard, ingress / egress ACL, sFlow, Storm Control, automatic Denial-of-Service prevention and port access control via 802.1x including multi-client authentication, Radius VLAN/policy assignment and guest/unauthenticated VLAN. Hardware redundancy methods such as PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) and HSR (High Availability Seamless Redundancy) also ensure uninterrupted data communication. As a result, this IPv6-ready switch allows applications to be implemented where both an extremely high level of network security and network availability are required. It can also be seamlessly integrated into PROFINET and EtherNet/IP environments. The integrated PoE Plus function allows for cost-effective power supply for terminal equipment.

The international invitation to submit entries for the award was addressed to graduates who had written a doctoral thesis in the field of «Materials and processes related to engineering and high-performance plastics and composites» between October 1, 2010, and September 30, 2012. Of the four prizewinners, the Japanese researcher Dr. Nobuhiro Yanai won the first prize of EUR 15 000. Dr. Yanai wrote his thesis at Kyoto University, Japan and is now assistant professor at Kyushu University, Japan. The other three Quadrant Award winners, who have won prizes of EUR 5 000 each are (in alphabetical order): Dr. Shelby B. Hutchens (USA), California Institute of Technology, USA, post-doctoral position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA; Dr. Sangwoo Lee (South Korea), University of Minnesota, USA, post-doctoral position at the University of Minnesota; and Dr. Neil D. Treat (USA), University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, post-doctoral position at Imperial College London, UK. The event took place at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland.
