DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS LAUNCHES ARNITEL ECO
Following the successful introduction of EcoPaXX™, a bio-based, high performance engineering plastic, DSM Engineering Plastics will be launching Arnitel® Eco at K 2010. Arnitel Eco is a high performance thermoplastic copolyester (TPC) with a 20%-50% content derived from renewable resources, depending on the hardness of the grade. The new material, which is already being sampled to selected customers, is specifically suited for applications in Consumer Electronics, Sports & Leisure and Automotive Interior.

Clariant’s Industrial and Consumer Specialties Business increases prices due to rising feedstock costs
Muttenz, June 15, 2010 - Clariant's Business Unit Industrial and Consumer Specialties today announced global price increases for its entire product portfolio – depending on the specific product group – by up to 15%.
Muttenz, June 11, 2010 - On June 13, thousands of spectators will file into the spectacular new Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa, to watch Germany play its first World Cup™ match against Australia. Once inside, the fans will be greeted by plastic seating that is not only colorful but also well-protected against fire and the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The polypropylene seats in Durban and in two other World Cup football venues have been made using color, flame retardants and UV stabilizers, which are compounded together by the Clariant Masterbatches business unit.

Sales were up 9%, compared to the fourth quarter 2009, driven again by a significant increase in sales volumes and a positive price development. Operating Income is up by about 10% also driven by sales volumes, price gains and a favorable product mix. Both results have been achieved despite significantly unfavorable effects of currency and raw material prices.
