Project Air: Unique Swedish green chemistry investment wins support from EU Innovation Fund
The European Union Innovation Fund has selected Project Air, a unique production facility for sustainable methanol in Stenungsund, Sweden, as one of 17 large-scale green tech projects to be granted more than EUR 1.8 billion. Project Air, which is a collaboration between Perstorp, Fortum and Uniper, has applied for EUR 97 million and the total investment is expected to amount to more than EUR 230 million.

Solvay met au point les premiers stabilisants des rayons UV-C pour la protection des surfaces en polyoléfines
Solvay, leader mondial des matériaux de spécialité, a lancé un nouveau portefeuille de stabilisants des rayons UV-C. Ces solutions innovantes sont destinées aux applications sanitaires exigeantes, dans lesquelles des surfaces en polyoléfines sont traitées à la lumière ultraviolette (UV), plus précisément par la fraction UV-C du spectre (longueurs d’onde de 200 à 280 nm), dans le but de lutter contre la COVID et les infections nosocomiales. La mise au point de cette nouvelle technologie brevetée représente une étape importante pour l’industrie des polyoléfines, car elle est la première à traiter les problèmes de dégradation, de décoloration et de microfissuration des polyoléfines dues à une exposition fréquente au rayonnement UV-C.

Clariant’s SynDane® catalyst chosen for Wanhua’s new world-scale maleic anhydride plant
Clariant has been awarded a major contract by Wanhua Chemical Group to supply catalysts for its new maleic anhydride plant, which will be one of the largest in the world. Designed to produce 200 kilotons of maleic anhydride annually, the plant will rely on Clariant’s SynDane catalyst for the production process. The facility will be located in Yantai city, Shandong province, and is scheduled to commence operation in 2023. Also based in Yantai, Wanhua is one of the largest chemical producers in China and is among the top 30 chemical producers globally by 2020 sales.
