Pipe industry benefits from unique Borealis injection moulding grade for PE100 fittings
Borealis has launched Borstar® HE3490-IM, a unique polyethylene (PE) grade specifically for the injection moulding of PE100 pressure pipe fittings. This solution provides the fitting manufacturers with a better alternative to the extrusion materials which they currently use – a material that combines the higher pressure performance of a PE100 material with the processing friendliness of a PE80. The whole value chain from fittings manufacturer to pipe producer, contractor and pipeline owner will benefit from the greater consistency in overall quality and performance achieved with this grade. Borstar HE3490-IM is available through Borouge, the distributor and marketer of Borealis’ speciality polyolefins in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

GE Plastics Presents $25,000 to the Eindhoven University of Technology for Polymer Research
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — March 31, 2006 — In a ceremony at the TU/e on March 29, GE Plastics presented a donation of $25,000 to Prof. Dr. Piet Lemstra, senior professor for the Laboratory of Polymer Technology (SKT) in the Department for Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. The donation was presented on behalf of Dr. Theo Hoeks, principal scientist at GE Plastics in Bergen op Zoom, and a winner of GE’s prestigious Edison Award in 2005.

Owens Corning investiert mehrere Millionen US-Dollar in glasgewebe-Produktion - Reaktion auf steigende Nachfrage auf dem Windenergiemarkt
PARIS, Frankreich, 28. März 2006 – Owens Corning (OWENQ.OB) hat heute auf der Verbundwerkstoff-Fachmesse JEC Composites Show den Bau einer zusätzlichen Fertigungsstraße für Glasfasergewebe in seinem Werk nördlich von São Paulo (Brasilien) bekannt gegeben. Die Nachricht folgt auf zwei weitere wichtige Ankündigungen, die Owens Corning kürzlich zu seinen Aktivitäten auf dem Windenergiemarkt publiziert hatte. Eine dieser Mitteilungen betraf eine Kapitalinvestition in Indien, welche dazu beiträgt, die zunehmende Nachfrage nach Windenergie in diesem Land zu befriedigen. Die andere gab die Einführung eines neuen, bahnbrechenden, Glasgewebes auf Basis eines Direktrovings bekannt. Owens Corning hat für das Gewebe mit der Markenbezeichnung WindStrand™ erstmals seine neue Hochleistungs-Technologieplattform HiPer-tex™ verwendet. WindStrand reduziert die Energiekosten pro Kilowattstunde (kWh) und bringt damit die Windenergie im Wettbewerb mit anderen alternativen Energiequellen einen entscheidenden Schritt voran.
