TICONA/CELANESE completes first European Omnexus transaction

(Zurich, July 31, 2001) – Omnexus™ (www.omnexus.com), the global plastics e-marketplace, registered its first online transaction in Europe, shortly after its eProcurement system went live for European members. The first ‘buy’ through Omnexus was made by leading connector manufacturer, FCI of France, placing an order for Vectra (LCP), with Ticona/Celanese AG of Germany.

“We are very excited to be the first European user of the Omnexus transaction facility,” says Louis Teste, Global Plastics Purchasing Co-ordinator, FCI. “Ticona is one of our key suppliers but we buy multiple branded products from a supplier base that is largely represented by Omnexus’ founding partnership of companies”.

“Because we buy a wide range of products from a variety of sources, Omnexus gives us the ability to simplify and speed up our purchasing administration. Importantly, we envisage that it will enable us to exercise greater control over the ordering and inventory management process with less intervention needed by our staff.”

According to Karlheinz Schuster, eBusiness Project Manager Europe, Ticona, Germany: “We are pleased that FCI, as one of our major customers, has shown confidence in using this unique online marketplace. We not only believe that the system delivers cost and time savings for processors opting to conduct business through Omnexus, we are also convinced that we are able to administer their orders and service their needs in a more efficient way.”

David Jukes, Senior Vice-President of Omnexus, stated: “Although the e-transactional capability of Omnexus has only now become available to European processors, they have been showing tremendous interest in it since it became an active and successful eProcurement facilitator in North America last year. Because of that, and because of the immediate, positive response now that it is operational here, we believe there will be a strong take-up among processors in Europe.”

“Moreover, with the increasing focus on Enterprise Resource Planning within the industry, the inclusion of ERP functionality in the Omnexus system will make it particularly attractive for processors dealing with multiple suppliers and actively seeking productivity gains.”

The integration of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) functionality enables Omnexus members to benefit from significant additional time and cost savings as their in-house computer systems are enabled to communicate directly with the systems of their suppliers. This creates a single, automated supply chain that can function whenever the processor has a need for materials, not just during regular supplier business hours. Ordering errors are also minimized.

Other service enhancements include multi-language options and the ability to transact in any of the world’s recognised currencies, as agreed between processor and supplier. Furthermore, the inauguration of cutting edge technology also allows this set up of automated negotiation and commerce collaboration, in real-time, between processors and suppliers.

This enables both parties to jointly establish the business rules governing how specific conditions and circumstances of their relationship should be managed, automatically. Moreover, the Omnexus transactional system offers order change capability in respect of product, price, quantity or delivery date, all e-capabilities that are the first of their kind to be deployed in the plastics industry.
