WindStrand™ allows longer, stiffer, lighter blades for up to 20 percent less cost than other high-performance materials

February 28, 2006 – Owens Corning (OWENQ.OB) announced at the European Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition in Athens, Greece, a breakthrough single-end roving and knitted fabric, WindStrand™, which will allow the wind energy market to take another step forward in competing successfully against other alternative energy sources by reducing the cost per kilowatt-hour (kwh.) The product will allow turbine manufacturers to increase blade lengths by as much as six percent and deliver up to 12 percent more power -- for up to 20 percent less cost than any competing carbon-glass hybrid solution currently on the market.

DNV Certification B.V. als eerste certificatie-instelling geaccrediteerd voor OHSAS 18001-certificering

DNV Certification B.V. heeft op 22 maart 2006 door de Raad van Accreditatie (RvA) formeel bevestigd gekregen dat DNV de OHSAS 18001-accredatie ontvangt. OHSAS 18001, Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series, is een norm voor arbomanagementsystemen. Na een goedkeuringsproces van ruim twee jaar is DNV Certification B.V. de eerste van slechts vier certificatie-instellingen die geaccrediteerd is door de RvA om OHSAS 18001-certificaten te verstrekken. De OHSAS 18001 certificatie is een manier om bedrijven te onderscheiden die over een toereikend, goedgekeurd systeem beschikken waarmee ze het welzijn en de bescherming van hun werknemers waarborgen. Dyneema® vs. Steel Wire: Deeper, Stronger, Tougher

DyneemaUrmond (NL), April 5 - Deep-sea installation of sub-sea hardware projects now have a high-technology alternative to traditional steel wire rope that offers a significantly longer lifespan, lighter weight and greater safety. Rope made with super-strong Dyneema® fiber from DSM has been shown to outperform steel wire rope when used to place heavy equipment at extreme ocean depths greater than 3km. Testing by TMT Technologies in Huntington Beach, CA, showed that an 80mm rope made with Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, withstood more than twice the number of bend cycles of steel wire. (number of bend cycles where 50% of steel wire is discarded)

Borealis has launched Borstar® HE3490-IM, a unique polyethylene (PE) grade specifically for the injection moulding of PE100 pressure pipe fittings. This solution provides the fitting manufacturers with a better alternative to the extrusion materials which they currently use – a material that combines the higher pressure performance of a PE100 material with the processing friendliness of a PE80.
