(Photo: Belden, PR167) In mid-September 2010, Belden put a new test laboratory for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) into operation at the company's site in Neckartenzlingen. At the new facility, frequencies of up to 40 GHz can be measured, something that only very few test labs in Germany are capable of currently.

SABIC Expands Random Copolymer PP Grades for Excellent Aesthetics and Enhanced High Performance in Cast Film

SABIC Expands Random Copolymer PP Grades for Excellent Aesthetics and Enhanced High Performance in Cast Film. (Photos SABIC, PR008)Sittard, the Netherlands – October 8, 2010 – SABIC, a global plastics industry leader, today announced an important expansion of its polypropylene (PP) resin portfolio: two new random copolymer PP grades for cast film and biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film applications. The new grades – SABIC® PP 622L and SABIC® PP 621P– are engineered to meet growing customer demand for advanced film technologies such as multi-layer constructions, and for improved aesthetics and versatility. They provide significant advantages over homopolymers in a wide range of packaging applications, enabling converters to produce film with high clarity and exceptional sealing and puncture resistance performance. Applications include food packaging, lamination film, hygiene packaging, stationary film, and flower/textile packaging.

Clear identification of interfaces

Clear identification of interfaces with the proven CA series from Hirschmann™
(Photo Belden, BLDPR170)The renowned circular connectors from the Hirschmann™ CA series that were previously only available in black can now be ordered from Belden in red, white and blue. This makes it possible to clearly label power supply, measurement and control interfaces, even when they all use the same basic connector. The CA circular connectors are all UL- and VDE-approved, and thanks to their compact construction they are currently the smallest connectors on the market. Other features include a temperature range from 40 to +90°C and – provided they are correctly mounted and screwed together – protection category IP67. Meaning that these connectors can be used wherever maximum reliability is critical, for instance in machine building, traffic engineering and renewable energy applications.

New clarifying agent from Milliken saves energy too, tests with Arburg show

Milliken carried out a series of trials using an all-electric Arburg machine Allrounder 520 A with a clamping force of 1500 kN to produce a utility drawer in two different grades of polypropylene, with melt flow rates of 25 and 60 g/10 min, both of them containing Millad NX8000. Ghent, Belgium – 6 October, 2010 – Plastics processors intending to produce high-clarity polypropylene mouldings now have two compelling reasons for using grades containing Milliken’s next-generation clarifying agent, Millad® NX8000. Not only does it yield unparalleled transparency in injection- and blow-mouldings, but it has also now been proven to allow significant savings in energy consumption through reduced processing temperatures and lower cycle times.
