Healthcare market to profit from SABIC’s extended plastics portfolio, unveiled at Pharmapack 2014
SITTARD, The Netherlands, February 12, 2014 - SABIC is coming to Pharmapack Europe 2014 (Paris, February 12-13) to demonstrate its intent to further expand into the healthcare market. On Stand 354, SABIC will introduce two new pharmaceutical grades of polypropylene intended for syringes, other medical dosing application devices and also for packaging for healthcare applications. The two grades, SABIC® PP PCGR40 and a lubricated variant, SABIC® PP PCGR40L, are high-flow random copolymers typically used for producing thin-walled products with high levels of clarity.

Rob Duchateau wins DPI Invention Award 2013
SITTARD, the Netherlands, June 27, 2013 - On 20 June 2013 Rob Duchateau (47), Chief Scientist at SABIC and part-time Associate Professor at the Technical University Eindhoven (the Netherlands), received the DPI Invention Award 2013. Jacques Joosten of the Dutch Polymer Institute handed out the award during the biannual conference of the European Polymer Federation (EPF) in Pisa, Italy, from 16 to 21 June 2013. The award was granted for Duchateau’s scientific output in the last years and for his application of fundamental knowledge in polymer applications and properties.

Han Mertens wins Dutch National Chemistry Olympiad 2013

SITTARD, The Netherlands, June 13, 2013 - 16 year-old Han Mertens from Malden in the Netherlands, a student at the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Nijmegen, has won the 34th National Chemistry Olympiad (NCO), ahead of around 4000 other participants. Three other competitors also shared in the prizes: Ronen Brilleslijper (JSG. Maimonides, Amsterdam), Christian Böhmer (Tabor College Werenfridus, Hoorn) and Ymro Hoogendoorn (Penta college CSG. Scala, Spijkenisse). The Dutch National Chemistry Olympiad is an annual competition between talented students of chemistry in secondary education from all around the Netherlands. The aim is to raise the profile of chemistry in secondary schools and to foster talent. The finals of the 34th Olympiad took place from 5 to 12 June 2013. SABIC, one of the world leaders in the chemicals sector, hosted the event at its European Headquarters in Limburg, in the south of the Netherlands.

Plastics food packaging converters gain assurance on new regulatory compliance with updated polyolefins test information from SABIC
SITTARD, The Netherlands, June 11, 2013 - Companies in the food packaging chain using polyolefins (polyethylenes and polypropylenes) can now access SABIC’s new food safety and compliance declarations. SABIC is one of the first producers of plastics to the European food industry to have all its food contact declarations updated in line with changes to European Union regulations, three years ahead of the required 2016 deadline. These changes are intended to further increase the safety of packaged foods. SABIC has been required to retest all its polyolefins packaging materials to make sure they are compliant with the new testing conditions. SABIC provides hundreds of food contact declarations concerning its European polyolefins portfolio as an important service to its customers. The declarations are available on the European pages of www.sabic.com.

National Chemistry Olympiad 2013 at SABIC

European Customers to Benefit from SABIC's New Specialty MD LDPE Film Grades Portfolio
SITTARD, The Netherlands, March 07, 2013 - To better serve customers in the packaging industry seeking innovative, high quality and sustainable materials, SABIC today announced a product range expansion to encompass specialized medium-density (MD) LDPE film grades - typically used for applications requiring high clarity and stiffness, such as collation shrink films. Production is taking place at SABIC's manufacturing facility in Wilton, Teesside, U.K., on the world's largest low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant.

HDPE Blow Molders Set to Benefit from Increased Choice in Bimodal HDPE as SABIC entering the Market
SITTARD, The Netherlands, February 21, 2013 - Producers of blow molded bottles for household and industrial chemicals and for personal care will soon be able to benefit from an added choice in supply of bimodal high density polyethylene (HDPE). SABIC is readying facilities at its plant in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, due to start of commercial production in the second quarter of this year, with grades suitable for containers up to 5L. The same grades, as well as grades intended for jerry cans, drums and other large containers, will also be produced at one of the company’s plants in Saudi Arabia; production there will start in the third quarter of 2013.

SABIC Launches Portfolio of Antimicrobial Compounds at MD&M West to Help Customers Enhance Safety of Healthcare Applications
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands, February 13, 2013 - According to a 2011 report by the World Health Organization, in 2002 in the United States alone approximately 99,000 deaths were linked to healthcare associated infections (HCAIs).¹ Here at MD&M West (booth #1701), SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today introduced powerful new tools to help medical device manufacturers reduce HCAIs among patients and clinicians. SABIC’s nine new antimicrobial compounds featuring silver technology have been tested for log reduction values – the level of microbes eliminated from a surface – according to the ISO 22196-2007 protocol. They comprise one of the broadest antimicrobial portfolios in the industry and offer distinct advantages over off-the-shelf antimicrobial concentrates combined with third-party resins.
