GREAT LAKES AND OXYCHEM COMPLETE 50-50 ANTIMONY OXIDE JOINT VENTURE

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced that the company has completed a transaction that will merge its antimony business with OxyChem’s Laurel Industries unit in a 50-50 joint venture, GLCC Laurel, LLC.

GREAT LAKES INCREASES ANTIOXIDANT PRICES

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced it would increase prices worldwide by 10 percent for its main antioxidants including Alkanox® 240, Anox® 20, and Anox® PP-18, effective for shipments after April 15, 2004, or as contracts allow. The price for Anox® NDB® (No Dust Blends) and other blends will also increase dependent upon main antioxidant content and value.

GREAT LAKES INCREASES FLAME RETARDANT PRICES

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced it would increase prices worldwide by an average of 15 percent for phosphate ester flame retardants and 10 percent for a range of brominated flame retardants, effective for shipments after April 15, 2004, or as contracts allow. These price increases are in addition to the 7 percent increase for phosphate ester flame retardants that took effect March 1, 2004, and brominated flame retardant price increases that were announced previously.

GREAT LAKES AND OXYCHEM FORM ANTIMONY OXIDE JOINT VENTURE

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) and Laurel Industries, Inc., a part of the chemicals operations (“OxyChem”) of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, will combine their antimony businesses as part of a joint venture to develop, produce, and market antimony-based flame retardants, synergists, and catalysts, the companies announced today.

GREAT LAKES ADDS CLEARLITE NUCLEATING AND CLARIFYING AGENTS TO ITS POLYMER ADDITIVES PORTFOLIO

Clearlite NU 005 is a sorbitol-based product that in addition to its nucleating function also acts as a clarifying agent, which reduces haze and significantly increases polymer transparency. GREAT LAKES ANNOUNCES PRICE INCREASE FOR A RANGE OF BROMINATED FLAME RETARDANTS

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced that effective for all shipments after April 1, 2004, where contracts allow, the company will increase the price for pentabromodiphenyl oxide based flame retardants and all grades of brominated carbonate oligomers by $0.10/lb or $220/MT globally.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced that effective for shipments after March 29, 2004, where contracts allow, the company will increase the price for all grades of antimony trioxide by $0.15/lb in the Americas and by $330/MT in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The price for other antimony derivatives will also increase dependent upon antimony content. This price increase is in addition to the increase of $0.25/lb in the Americas and $550/MT in Europe and the Asia Pacific region that took effect January 23, 2004.

* Great Lakes Chemical Corporation will replace Penta-PBDE with a new product called Firemaster® 550. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has completed preliminary studies of the penta replacement and determined that it does not meet the standards that would necessitate categorizing it as a PBT. This means that the new product is not Persistent in the environment, Bioaccumulative in organisms or Eco-Toxic.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK), citing years of research, advances in technology and a favorable environmental assessment by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of what the company calls the “new generation” of flame retardants, today announced that it will voluntarily cease production of two widely-used flame retardant chemicals, penta- and octa- polybrominated diphenyl ether, by the end of 2004. Great Lakes will replace Penta-PBDE with a new product called Firemaster® 550.
