Range of functions identical to backbone systems in office sector

Belden announces release 7.0 of its software platform from the Hirschmann™ product series, used in the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families of managed switches from Hirschmann™. (Photo: Belden, PR200) Belden announces release 7.0 of its software platform from the Hirschmann™ product series, used in the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families of managed switches from Hirschmann™. Like previous versions, the latest release of this software platform offers a range of functions normally only found in backbone systems for the office area. These include comprehensive management, diagnosis and filter functions plus various redundancy methods, security mechanisms and realtime applications. In addition to DVMRP and PIM-DM, the new PIM-SM multicast protocol is provided for Layer 3, enabling optimum utilization of bandwidth. The configuration, security and service functions have also been further enhanced.

(Photo: Clariant)Muttenz, 3 August 2011 – At inter airport Europe, Clariant will show how the carbon footprint of aircraft deicing can be cut dramatically by recycling used fluid. The Munich show also will mark the deicer-maker’s first major public appearance since its Octagon acquisition, which expanded its supply capability in North America.

Basic managed IP67-Switch

Belden presents new 9-PORT OCTOPUS from its Hirschmann™ product range (Photo: Belden, PR201) Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product range with a 9-port version of the OCTOPUS OS20 series. The Hirschmann™ basic software is installed on this layer-2 switch, which meets the requirements of protection class IP67. This software supports both various management and security functions and fast redundancy methods such as HIPER-Ring, MRP and RSTP. The new Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX) have vibration-resistant M12 connections in D-coding. Further features include a robust metal housing and an extended temperature range from -40° to +70° C. The OCTOPUS also meets EMC and fire protection requirements for use in rail vehicles. An E-1 approval with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority has also been applied for. As the switch can be cascaded in any way, decentrally structured automation networks with short transmission paths can be implemented with the respective terminal devices. The OCTOPUS’s redundancy method and a redundant voltage supply guarantee high network availability.

New I/O module for safety applications

New I/O module for safety applications. (Photo: Belden, PR190) Belden has brought out a new I/O module in its Lumberg Automation™ range specifically for the decentralized Fieldbus system LioN-Link. The module (0942 UEM 612) fulfills protection class requirements IP67 and has four digital M12 slots with a higher limit on the output voltage permitting 2A per line and 6A in total. These outputs are designed for safety-related applications up to performance level D (as defined in the new Machinery Directive) making this I/O module particularly suitable for failsafe control of actuators or – following a complete switch-off of the 24V output power supply – reliable emergency OFF functions. Your terminal equipment can be connected directly to the I/O module, so there is no need for terminal boxes, which are comparatively expensive and complicated to install. This makes it possible to implement cost-effective safety solutions that can be used, for example, in mechanical engineering applications or in the assembly and handling sector.

Solid performance in a difficult environment – full-year guidance confirmed

Clariant• Q2 sales up 14% in local currencies on solid business fundamentals and price increases, but down 1% in CHF as Swiss franc continued to appreciate. Süd-Chemie results consolidated for May and June 2011.
• Q2 EBITDA before exceptional items at CHF 241 million, down from CHF 264 million a year ago, negative currency impact of CHF 69 million.
• Q2 EBITDA margin before exceptional items reached 12.9% compared to 13.9% a year ago; Q2 EBITDA margin at constant currencies 14.3%.
• Q2 cash flow from operations of minus CHF 101 million as inventories rose due to relocation of production assets and the usual seasonality.
• Integration of Süd-Chemie progressing as planned
• Outlook: Clariant expects a more difficult but nevertheless solid business environment in H2 2011, characterized by softening demand. Based on this scenario, no further deterioration in currency markets assumed, and including Süd-Chemie consolidated for eight months, Clariant confirms its guidance for the full-year 2011 with sales between CHF 7.8 - 8.0 billion and an EBITDA margin of 13.5% - 14.5%.

CEO Hariolf Kottmann commented: “In the first half of 2011, business fundamentals were robust although global economic growth dampened compared to 2010. This is reflected in an improved underlying operating performance year-on-year. The results, however, have been adversely impacted by the massive appreciation of the Swiss franc. The recently acquired Süd-Chemie has met our expectations in the first two months of consolidation and the integration into Clariant is progressing as planned. These developments give us the confidence to confirm our targets for the full-year 2011.”
