Optiled LED Tube Lighting Using SABIC’s Lexan* LUX Resin for the Covers>GUANGZHOU, China – May 17, 2011 – Here at Chinaplas 2011, Booth 10.2E21, the Innovative Plastics strategic business unit of SABIC is shining a spotlight on its latest win: China-based Light Engine’s selection of customized Lexan* LUX high-diffusion resin grades to produce light-emitting diode (LED) tube lighting for its customer Optiled. Optiled is using newly commercialized Lexan LUX polycarbonate (PC) material for the covers of residential and office fixtures, shielding hot spots while delivering excellent light transmission. Breakthrough Lexan LUX resins provide a non-chlorinated, non-brominated flame retardant to meet the UL94 V0 standard at 1.5 mm in all colors; a choice of customizable diffusion levels or transparency; and excellent luminance. SABIC wins VNCI Responsible Care Award for 2011

The announcement was made on Wednesday June 15 during the annual meeting of the Dutch Chemical Industry Federation (Vereniging van de Nederlandse Chemische Industrie (VNCI)) in The Hague. The company was chosen to receive the award because of its efforts to render the transportation of hazardous substances as safe as possible. SABIC has implemented a number of safety policies which go above and beyond the statutory and regulatory provisions. In addition, SABIC also actively involves its suppliers in safety improvements throughout the logistics chain.

Previously, only black plastic materials were available, typically forcing designers to confine LDS components to the device’s interior. The introduction of the company’s new colorable LNP Thermocomp compound vastly expands device design options.
