BELDEN ADDS THE OZD PROFI G12 ATEX 1 DEVICE TO ITS HIRSCHMANN™ RANGE OF PRODUCTS

Fast Fibre Optic repeater for Ex Zone 1.
(Photo: Belden, PR188) Belden has now launched the Hirschmann™ OZD Profi G12 ATEX , Profibus FO repeaters certified for use in hazardous locations, zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. The optical ports are intrinsically safe and have got op-is approval. With a transfer rate of up to 12 Mbps, the repeater is available with a stainless steel or plastic housing. The optical function module, which has its own Ex approval, is also available without a housing. This enables it to be installed in the same housing as other components, so saving valuable space. The optical performance of the FO repeater can be continuously monitored using signal strength outputs which can be integrated in the process control system. As the Hirschmann™ OZD Profi G12 ATEX 1 repeaters also support ring redundancy, it is now possible to implement highly available Profibus networks using ring or line topologies in potentially explosive environments such as those found in the oil and gas sectors and in some areas of the food industry.

First All-Plastic Front-end Module on Chinese-developed Vehicle Using SABIC Innovative Plastics’ STAMAX® Polypropylene Resin Featured at Shanghai Auto Show

The Chang'an CX30>SHANGHAI, China – May 20, 2011 – The first Chinese-developed model vehicle with an all-plastic front-end module (FEM) using SABIC Innovative Plastics’ STAMAX® long glass fiber polypropylene (LGFPP) resin was displayed at the recently concluded 14th annual Shanghai Auto Show. Chang’an Automobile Co., one of China’s largest automakers, featured the all-plastic FEM at the show in a stripped down version of its CX30 model. This major application uses STAMAX LGFPP resin from SABIC Innovative Plastics to replace steel, cutting part weight by up to 40 percent and total vehicle weight by about four kilograms. In addition to weight reduction for improved fuel economy and lower emissions, the all-plastic FEM solution reduces overall system costs for Chang’an by enabling modular assembly for improved efficiency on its production line. This recent work with Chang’an illustrates SABIC Innovative Plastics’ ability to support automotive OEMs as they strive to develop lighter vehicles for improved fuel economy and lower emissions, while also lowering overall costs.
