SABIC Partners with MAUSER to Develop High-Performance, Cost-Effective Granulated HDPE for Industrial Containers

SABICSittard, the Netherlands – January 19, 2011 – SABIC, a global plastics industry leader, today announced that its high-performance SABIC® HDPE ICP 5602 material for industrial containers is now commercially available. The breakthrough high-density polyethylene (HDPE) – developed collaboratively with MAUSER, a leading producer of industrial packaging - is designed for blow moulding of tight head drums with a capacity of 25 to 220 litres. SABIC® HDPE ICP 5602 resin combines very high impact and rigidity with excellent processing performance and optimal resistance to stress cracks and chemicals. Most significantly, this material delivers improved melt flow for higher productivity and reduced energy usage, and its granular form – a departure from traditional powders – prevents waste, increases machine efficiency and permits safer product handling.

Belden has extended its range of Lumberg Automation™ products to include new Profibus DP connectors. These connectors each have a D-Sub and M12 interface, and are offered with 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlets. All versions support data rates of up to 12 Mbit/s and feature a compact die-cast zinc housing with test socket and activatable terminating resistor. They also boast quick-connection technology that enables Profibus DP devices to be connected with M12 Profibus cord sets simply and securely without the use of tools. The advantage of this, for example, is reduced downtimes of machinery and equipment when faults occur, increasing production efficiency.

A range of solutions for connecting terminals equipped with a serial interface to Ethernet networks

A range of different solutions for connecting devices with a serial interface to Ethernet networks. (Photo: Belden, PR179) Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product range to include four IOLAN DS series converters from Perle Systems, which allow terminals equipped with a serial interface to be connected to Ethernet networks. All of the models have software-selectable RS 232/422/485 interfaces as well as an Ethernet port – or two Ethernet ports in the case of the rack variant. In addition, they support various protocols for serial data transmission, including Modbus TCP Gateway, Raw Serial Data over UTP, IPv4 and IPv6. The Perle Device Manager makes configuring the devices easy. The housings are made of metal, and have fanless cooling. What is more, all models meet safety (IEC 60950-1) and EMC standards (EN 61000). As the four converters have a different number of serial interfaces as well as different bandwidths, security functions, protection standards, temperature ranges, and special approvals, it is easy for customers to find the ideal solution for their application – whether it is in a factory, in process and building automation or in the energy sector.

(Photos Milliken, MKPR069, Copyright© 2010 Milliken & Company, All rights reserved)Ghent, Belgium – 11 January 2011 – Milliken, a division of Milliken & Company, has overcome one of the toughest challenges in the plastics industry – successful nucleation of polyethylene (PE). Hyperform® HPN-20E, currently the most efficient PE nucleation agent available globally enables higher peak crystallization temperatures that can cut cycle times and drive productivity improvements of 10 to 20 percent (depending upon processing and resin design). It can also increase oxygen and water vapor barrier performance between 20 to 40 percent (depending upon processing and resin design) providing the possibility of extended shelf life of perishable contents such as dry foods, dairy products, vitamins and nutraceuticals. Hyperform HPN-20E and other upcoming Milliken nucleation solutions support sustainability by enabling broader use of PE, an easily recycled plastic, in diverse packaging applications.

AS-Interface modules with encapsulated PUR housing and high signal density

Belden has introduced two new AS-Interface modules from its Lumberg Automation™ product range, one of which can be coupled to the actuator/sensor network with round cables, the other with flat cables. For this purpose, the modules feature either an integrated T-piece functionality or piercing contacts. Both versions are slave modules with four digital inputs for two- or three-wire sensors and four digital outputs for standard actuators. Two inputs and two outputs are Y-connected. Since both modules support the latest AS-Interface profile in accordance with AS-Interface specification V3.0, up to 1,000 digital inputs/outputs can be connected. Compared to the previous versions, signal density has therefore more than doubled. What is more, the new modules feature a fully encapsulated PUR housing that is highly resistant to cooling lubricants from machine tools, for example.
