BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – October 28, 2009 – SABIC Innovative Plastics today launched a new copolymer technology: Lexan* HFD specialty copolymer resins, a material innovation that gives customers high melt flow without traditional decreases in toughness; and improved ductility without impacting melt flow. These materials build upon the unmatched clarity, extreme toughness and high-performance for which Lexan polycarbonate (PC) resin is known. The new material opens the door to vast new design options, especially in key application areas where thin-wall parts, complex geometries and high-impact products that can withstand very low temperatures with no compromise on clarity are required.

DSM wins Innovation in Environment Award for lightweight air-cargo container panels
Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, today announces that it is awarded the international AVK award in Innovations and Environment for a new, light weight version of air-cargo containers. The containers help airlines to cut carbon emissions by 28,000 ton a year, the equivalent of taking more than 8500 cars off the road.

Bio Base Europe Training Centre on Track for 2011 Opening
Gent, 27 October 2009 – Bio Base Europe, the Biopark Terneuzen and Ghent Bio-Energy Valley joint initiative launched in April 2009, has said its new bio-focused Training Centre is on course to open in early 2011. The Bio Base Europe initiative will be the first of its kind to include both a Pilot Plant and a Training Centre dedicated to bio-based industry and aims to support and accelerate the development of a sustainable bio-based economy in Europe. It is the largest Interreg project ever granted to the Dutch-Flemish border region and is set to transform the region into the main bio-economy gateway in Europe.
