Milliken Showcases Global Leadership in Polyolefin Enhancement with Launch of New Hyperform® Reinforcing Agent

Potential Applications for Milliken’s Hyperform® HPR-803 Include Bumpers and Door Panels

To help automakers and suppliers achieve greater weight-out, Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, is introducing Hyperform® HPR-803 high performance reinforcing agent for polyolefins. New Hyperform HPR-803 reduces weight by up to 15 percent vs. traditional mineral-filled systems while delivering an outstanding balance of stiffness and impact strength. Further, the new Milliken agent offers comparable surface finish to talc-filled compounds that cannot be achieved with chopped glass fiber reinforcement. By utilizing Hyperform HPR-803 reinforcement as a replacement for chopped glass fiber, customers can expand applications for polypropylene and other polyolefins beyond current “hidden” structural automotive and appliance parts to encompass highly visible components such as bumpers and door panels. (Photo Milliken, MKPR053)Gent, Belgium – 15 September, 2009 – With the recent decision of the European Parliament setting CO2 emission performance standards for new passenger cars in the form of Regulation (EC) No 443/2009, weight reduction promises to become even more imperative for the automotive industry. To help automakers and suppliers achieve greater weight reduction, Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, is introducing Hyperform® HPR-803 high performance reinforcing agent for polyolefins. The company’s continuing innovation is enabling customers to improve the appearance, performance, and productivity of their products, and expand potential polyolefin application areas.

HIGH PERFORMANCE OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS BASED ON NEW FLUOROSINT® ENHANCED PTFE GRADES FROM QUADRANT DEMONSTRATED AT OFFSHORE EUROPE 2009

Fluorosint 500Quadrant’s range of enhanced PTFE materials available in full production sizes has been broadened with the addition of two new grades: Fluorosint HPV and Fluorosint MT-01. Fluorosint HPV, especially developed for highly demanding oil & gas applications, is a mica-filled high performance bearing grade that can deliver a pressure velocity (PV) performance improvement of more than 40 % over other PTFE materials according to in-house tests conducted by Quadrant. Parts made of Fluorosint HPV can withstand higher load and velocity while delivering better wear resistance, enabling longer part life compared to existing PTFE-based materials. The product was especially developed to meet the demands of high performance bearing applications where other, low-tech PTFE formulations would exhibit premature wear or can not perform. These characteristics open up interesting new options for engineers and manufacturers.
