PFG Fiber Glass starts third furnace in China

PPG IndustriesSHANGHAI, China, May 6, 2008 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) announced it started a third furnace May 2 at the PFG Fiber Glass (Kunshan) Co. Ltd. operation in Kunshan it jointly owns with Nan Ya Plastics Corp. (TAIEX: Nan Ya). The additional furnace, with 38,000 metric tons of annual capacity, will serve the expanding Asian electronics industries and achieve full production in the coming months.

PPG’s first quarter sales increase 41 percent, setting all-time record

PPG IndustriesPPG Industries recently reported record sales for the first quarter of $3.7 billion, surpassing the prior year’s first quarter results by 41 percent. First quarter net income was $100 million, or 61 cents per share, comprising net income from continuing operations of $87 million, or 53 cents per share, and income from discontinued operations, net of tax, of $13 million, or 8 cents per share.
