PFG Fiber Glass starts third furnace in China
SHANGHAI, China, May 6, 2008 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) announced it started a third furnace May 2 at the PFG Fiber Glass (Kunshan) Co. Ltd. operation in Kunshan it jointly owns with Nan Ya Plastics Corp. (TAIEX: Nan Ya). The additional furnace, with 38,000 metric tons of annual capacity, will serve the expanding Asian electronics industries and achieve full production in the coming months.

PPG’s first quarter sales increase 41 percent, setting all-time record
PPG Industries recently reported record sales for the first quarter of $3.7 billion, surpassing the prior year’s first quarter results by 41 percent. First quarter net income was $100 million, or 61 cents per share, comprising net income from continuing operations of $87 million, or 53 cents per share, and income from discontinued operations, net of tax, of $13 million, or 8 cents per share.

SABIC Innovative Plastics Debuts First Non-halogenated FR Film to Help Electronics OEMs Reach Higher Environmental Standards
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 6, 2008 – Taking existing environmental restrictions, such as the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, a step farther, several global electronics manufacturers are voluntarily reducing halogenated additives in their products to benefit the environment. Helping to support this, SABIC Innovative Plastics today introduced EFR 735 film, the company’s first thermoplastic film made without the use of brominated or chlorinated flame-retardants. The new EFR film also supports the trend toward smaller, thinner devices by delivering high performance at very thin gauges.

Distrupol appointed sole distributor of Ineos HDPE in the UK
Effective 1 April, Distrupol has been appointed the sole distributor for the injection moulding and extrusion grades of INEOS Polyolefins’ high density polyethylene (HDPE) in the United Kingdom. HDPE is used in a wide range of technical, automotive, and houseware articles, and is noted for its surface finish, ease of processing and cross-grade FDA approval.
