Owens Corning To Acquire Modulo/ParMur Group, a Leading European Manufactured Stone Operation
TOLEDO, Ohio – July 25, 2006 – Owens Corning (OWENQ.OB) today announced it has signed a purchase agreement to acquire The Modulo™/ParMur Group, a market-leading manufacturer and distributor of interior and exterior decorative wall claddings in Europe. The acquisition will further the global expansion of the Owens Corning Cultured Stone® business in the European building products market.

Making its debut in the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race, new Dyneema® SK78 fiber from DSM Dyneema proved its superior performance under extreme conditions. The new grade of super-strong polyethylene was used in the running rigging of the two world-class yachts – ABN AMRO ONE and Pirates of the Caribbean – that finished first and second, respectively. Dyneema® SK78 fiber delivers improved stability under static loads for better performance and longer life in exceptionally demanding conditions such as the nine-month Volvo Ocean Race.

GE Presents Breakthrough Research on Plastic Substrate and Ultra-High-Barrier Coating System for Flexible Organic Displays
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — July 24, 2006 — GE Global Research announces its successful development of a substrate system for flexible, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The system features a developmental high-temperature Lexan* polycarbonate (PC) film from GE Plastics combined with a transparent, ultra-high-barrier coating to help protect the OLED device against oxygen and moisture. This research, jointly funded by the U.S. Display Consortium (USDC) and GE, is designed to address the critical need for plastic substrates that can enable cost-effective, lightweight, flexible organic displays. The new substrate system is currently being produced in batch mode and will ultimately be moved to a roll-to-roll process for cost efficiency.

Rapid exhibits new faster cleaning and maintenance granulators at Fakuma 2006
Three new series of granulators, featuring an innovative new ‘open-hearted’ engineering concept that facilitates drastically faster cleaning, maintenance and inspection, forms the centrepiece of the Rapid Granulators AB exhibit at Fakuma 2006 (Friedrichshafen, Germany, October 17-21). The new Rapid 300, 400 and 500 Series granulators have a new silver and black colour scheme, and between them provide cutter house widths between 300 and 1200 mm, and a throughput of up to 1500 kg/hour. The Rapid exhibit at Fakuma can be found in Hall B1, stand number 7107.

French Tier 1 automotive manufacturer MGI Coutier (Champfromier) lowers costs and gains performance for engine and under-hood air ducting by specifying Arnitel® thermoplastic copolyester elastomer (TPE-E or COPE) from DSM Engineering Plastics. The diversified auto component maker uses Arnitel PB582-H, a high-performance grade, in clean and charge air ducts for a number of car makers, including Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroën.
