GE’s New Anti-Static, Impact-Resistant LNP* Stat-Loy* Compounds Help Enhance Security for Plasmon UDO™ Optical Media

GE’s LNP* Stat-Loy* D Series Compounds Form the Shells of Plasmon’s UDO™ Media Plasmon, a market leader for professional data archival solutions, designed its cutting-edge UDO™ (Ultra Density Optical) media to be a highly secure archival storage medium for its customers’ valuable electronic data. Part of that security arises from Plasmon’s use of new D Series LNP* Stat-Loy* resins from GE Advanced Materials. Used to form the shell of Plasmon’s SLMD2005 UDO media, the Lexan* resin-based LNP compounds contribute an excellent balance of impact performance and resistance to static charge build-up. The new GE compounds are also good potential candidates for applications such as high-density media, internal hard disk parts, and air duct housings. Nanogel® Transparent Aerogel Daylighting Panels Successful in First European Installation

Daylight performance The planning documents specified a value of 0.03 - 0.05, or 3-5%, for the daylight quotient parameter. This is usually difficult to achieve on a longitudinal elevation in a sports hall with normal fenestration. In practice, and despite the occupied area of the Buchwiesen sports hall being below ground level, the daylight quotient was met over the hall’s complete area. It was even exceeded a little in the central area of the hall. EMPA tests and other research measuring the first European installation of Nanogel® translucent aerogel daylighting panels in a school sports hall in Buchwiesen, Zurich confirmed the data initially estimated by architect Arnold Amsler. The sports hall installation demonstrates even light distribution with consistent brightness and ability to maintain comfortable climatic conditions in summer and winter.

New German-language Magazine for Medical Device Manufacturers Announced

New GE Silicone-Based Products for Personal Care Formulations Tropical extracts, aromatic essences, and organic nutrients often get top billing on the labels of personal care products. However, manufacturers competing for shelf space in this sector recognize that superior formulations also require the use of high-performance – though less glamorous – materials. With this demand for greater performance in mind, GE Advanced Materials has launched four new silicone-based products that help offer enhanced performance and greater versatility to personal care formulations. These include: Silsoft* Tone (AB)n terpolymer, a multifunctional hair conditioning agent that can be added to shampoos and leave-on hair conditioners; Silsoft A-553, a 100-percent active (AB)n terpolymer designed to deliver premium conditioning benefits to hair; SilShine* 151 silicone resin, an excellent multi-functional, film-forming material that helps deliver visually perceptible high gloss to lips and hair; and SF 1540 emulsifier, a water-in-oil product with high actives content, which helps to provide formulators with more room in the oil phase for pigments, sunscreens, actives, emollients, and other ingredients critical for cosmetics and ultra-high SPF lotions.
