GLCC LAUREL INCREASES SMOKE SUPPRESSANT AND SPECIALTY FLAME RETARDANT PRICES

Great LakesINDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—GLCC Laurel, LLC today announced that the company will increase the global price for its smoke suppressant and specialty flame retardants product lines, where contracts allow, for shipments after September 15, 2004. The price will increase $.10 per lb. for zinc borate and ONGARD® 2 and ONCOR® 75RA smoke suppressants and $.20-$.30 per lb. for SMOKEBLOC® smoke suppressants.

DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS ANNOUNCES NEW FOCUS ON WIRE & CABLE WITH ARNITEL® TPE ELASTOMERS

In addition to its existing family of Arnitel® copolyether-ester and copolyester-ester (COPE or TEEE) elastomeric wire coating materials, DSM is developing new grades for this segment. New initiatives in wire & cable coating materials are announced by DSM Engineering Plastics, a business group within the DSM N.V. (Euronext Amsterdam:DSM) Performance Materials cluster. In addition to its existing family of Arnitel® copolyether-ester and copolyester-ester (COPE or TEEE) elastomeric wire coating materials, DSM is developing new grades for this segment. As well, the assignment of Francis Aussems as Application Development and Technical Service Manager with special focus on wire applications provides a dedicated resource to the wire and cable segment.

NEW GE LEXAN® SOLAR CONTROL PRODUCTS LIMIT HEAT YET LET IN HIGH LEVELS OF LIGHT

GE Advanced Materials has introduced two new families of transparent, solar-control glazing products in solid sheet and multi-wall polycarbonate sheet that reduce solar transmission by as much as 40 percent, while simultaneously offering the highest levels of light transmission, helping save energy costs for cooling and lighting buildings. The solid product is called LEXAN® EXELL® Solar Control IR sheet, and the multi-wall product is called LEXAN THERMOCLEAR® Solar Control IR sheet. Both products are excellent candidates for roof domes, skylights, walkways, conservatories, and other building applications where it is desirable to admit high levels of light while keeping excess heat to a minimum. Additionally, the solid product is aimed at public transportation applications, such as train and bus glazing.

QUADRANT MATERIALS HELP BRIDGE TO SPAN THE 3 KM CORINTH GULF STRAIT FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN GREECE

Construction of the Rion-Antirion Bridge (Greece), the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world has been completed in time for the 2004 Olympic Games thanks in part to materials from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP). TIELT, BELGIUM – August, 2004 – The Rion-Antirion Bridge constructed by Vinci Construction is now the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world with a continuous deck of 2,252 meters made of precast steel and concrete panels. Completed in time to convey the Olympic Torch, the structure is designed to guarantee resistance to seismic activities for 100 years and to sustain the impact of an 18,000 tons tanker sailing at 18 knots. Its most innovative feature, however, is the fully suspended continuous deck, able to move as a pendulum between four pylons. All future suspension bridges are likely to have similar requirements.
