Satisfactory third quarter result for Borealis
The Borealis Group reported today its third quarter results, showing a stronger financial performance compared to the same period of 2001. Operating profit for the third quarter increased to EUR 54 million from EUR 14 million a year ago, attributable to higher margins and early benefits from internal restructuring. Operating profit was down by 14% compared to the second quarter reflecting the fact that the anticipated economic recovery for the second half of 2002 has not materialised.

Honeywell and Samsung Electronics announce AZ-20® refrigerant supply agreement
Honeywell Fluorine Products, Europe announced that it has finalised a four-year agreement to support Samsung in the continued conversion of its air-conditioning equipment to AZ-20®, Honeywell’s patented replacement for ozone-depleting R-22 in new air conditioners. In addition to supplying refrigerant for charging and servicing equipment, Honeywell will provide support in system research and development, manufacturing plant conversion and service-technician training.

Bayer, Honeywell and Whirlpool team up to deliver environmental, health and safety training
As part of the transition to Enovate™ 3000 blowing agent (HFC-245fa) at its Evansville, Ind. and Forth Smith, Ark. refrigerator plants, Whirlpool Corporation organized environmental, health and safety (“EHS”) training sessions for approximately 260 employees. Five sessions were conducted for company engineers, supervisors, foam technicians, operators, quality control and materials engineers and EHS staff.

Official inauguration and ISO certification of the Borouge petrochemical complex
On October 30, 2002, the USD 1.2 billion Borouge petrochemical complex in Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates was officially inaugurated. The day before Det Norske Veritas presented the ISO 9001:2000 certification to Borouge, who achieved the certificate in only nine months as one of the fastest companies.
