Univar Names President for European Operations
Amsterdam, The Netherlands – October 25, 2002 – Univar N.V., a global leader in chemical distribution, has appointed John Phillpotts to be President of its European business unit, Univar Europe. Univar Europe is the second largest chemical distributor in Europe, with operations in 14 countries including the UK, Ireland, France, Benelux, Germany, Switzerland, the Nordic, Italy and the Iberian Peninsula. Univar also has significant positions in the European market in polymers and food ingredient distribution.

Anstead International moves into purpose-built state-of-the-art facilities in Basildon, UK
Anstead International has moved from its long-established centre at Billericay to new, purpose-built 25,000 ft2 (2,325 m2) state-of-the-art headquarters and temperature-controlled warehousing with computerised product location handling at Basildon, Essex, UK. The new facilities operate to the latest ISO 2000/ PS 9100 standards and include new laboratories where product testing is conducted according to industry and customer specifications and following strict procedures, to meet the highest standards for raw materials.

SONOCO PURCHASES WOOD REEL OPERATIONS
Hartsville, SC -- Sonoco (NYSE:SON) today announced the purchase of Texas Reel Company’s plywood reel operations, Sherman, Texas, and Coonrod Reel Company’s nailed wood reel operation in Bohman, Texas, it was announced today by Charles W. Reid, division vice president and general manager, Sonoco Baker® Reels. Annual sales from these acquisitions in 2002 are expected to be approximately $10 million. The purchase price was not revealed.

La Rapid Granulator AB ha rafforzato la propria presenza sul mercato italiano con l’apertura della Rapid Italy S.r.l., avvenuta il 1° ottobre 2002. La nuova consociata è situata a Campolongo Maggiore, in provincia di Venezia, ed è diretta da Fabio Bello, che vanta una lunga esperienza nel mercato delle macchine per il trattamento delle materie plastiche. La filiale italiana è la quinta filiale della Rapid Granulator AB, e va ad aggiungersi alla sede centrale di Bredaryd (Svezia) e alle filiali di vendita di Osaka (Giappone), Rockford (Illinois, USA); Parigi e Kleinostheim (Germania).

GATE THE SMALLEST PARTS WITH NEW NOZZLE FROM HUSKY
Bolton, Ontario, Canada -- Husky Injection Molding Systems has introduced the newest member of its Ultra hot runner nozzle family, the Ultra 250. With a bore diameter of only 11 millimeters and a minimum nozzle spacing of 18 millimeters, the Ultra 250 is ideally suited for inside gating or small pitch mold layouts. The Ultra 250 is Husky’s smallest nozzle and is guaranteed leakproof for three years. “The Ultra 250 nozzle is an upgrade from the existing 250 Series,” says Martin Baumann, Marketing Manager, Husky Hot Runners. “The new nozzle has an optimized thermal profile and reduced heat losses. Plus, a new material for the nozzle housing has allowed us to open the melt channel up to four millimeters while maintaining the maximum allowable injection pressure of 22,000 psi (1517 bar).”

La Robix sviluppa una nuova tecnica per l’estrusione di pezzi circolari in polimero Victrex® PEEK™
La società britannica Robix Ltd, specializzata nella trasformazione di tecnopolimeri, ha sviluppato una nuova tecnica utilizzabile per produrre con gli impianti e le attrezzature esistenti pezzi circolari estrusi in polimero Victrex® PEEK™ di diametro compreso fra 600 mm e 1200 mm e spessore di parete fino a 25 mm x 19 mm.
