Borealis evaluates possible closure of HDPE plant in Norway
In an extraordinary Board meeting in Borealis AS today, it was decided to inform the Borealis AS Supervisory Board in an extraordinary meeting February 13 about the ongoing evaluation of the future of the Borealis high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in Bamble, Norway. A potential closure of the plant in 2006 is one of the options being considered.

GE en de stad Turijn onthullen op Piazza Solferino een monument naar aanleiding van de Olympische Winterspelen 2006 in Turijn
BERGEN OP ZOOM, NEDERLAND — 1 februari 2006 — GE, een wereldwijde partner van de Olympische Spelen, en de stad Turijn onthulden vandaag een monument met olympische inspiratie ter ere van de inwoners van Turijn en de bezoekers die de stad verwacht voor de Olympische Winterspelen. De plechtigheid bij de GE Ice Plaza op de Piazza Solferino (in het hartje van het historische stadscentrum van Turijn) werd bijgewoond door burgemeester Sergio Chiamparino en door Giuseppe Recchi, voorzitter van GE Italia. Het kunstwerk is een geschenk van GE's 300.000 werknemers in de hele wereld aan de stad. Het blijft er staan tot het einde van de Spelen.

DSM Dyneema ISO 13485-gecertificeerd voor Dyneema® Purity werkprocessen
Urmond (NL), 1 februari - DSM Dyneema, uitvinder en fabrikant van Dyneema®, de sterkste vezel ter wereld, heeft bekendgemaakt dat haar productie van Dyneema® Purity vezels is gecertificeerd volgens de internationale ISO 13485:2003 standaard. Dyneema® Purity, een ultra-hoogmoleculair-gewicht polyetheen vezel die, bij gelijk gewicht, 15 maal sterker is dan staal, wordt gebruikt in hoogwaardige medische toepassingen, zoals hechtdraad voor orthopedische chirurgie. ISO 13485 is een aanvulling op de ISO 9001 standaard en is speciaal ontwikkeld voor het certificeren van systemen voor kwaliteitsbeheer in de productie van medische hulpmiddelen.

Betere baanligging bobslee door materiaalinnovatie DSM
De bobsleeën die het Nederlands Olympisch Team tijdens de Olympische Spelen in Turijn gebruikt, bevatten speciale trillingsdempers van DSM die de bobslee stabieler maken. Hierdoor is er minder kans op stuurfouten wat uiteindelijk tot een snellere eindtijd kan leiden. De trillingsdempers reduceren het aantal trillingen van de ijzers op de bobslee met veertig procent ten opzichte van de dempingblokken die traditioneel voor de bobslee werden gebruikt.

BOPLA’S BOCARD ENCLOSURE COVER OFFERS CLARITY AND STRENGTH THANKS TO DSM XANTAR® PC
BOPLA Gehäuse Systeme GmbH (Bünde, Germany) has chosen Xantar® polycarbonate from DSM Engineering Plastics for the available clear covers of its family of Bocard plastic electronics enclosures. The clear panels of the covers are made of Xantar 22 R 01001 resin. The covers meet IEC 529 IP65 specifications, sealing out dust and minimizing ingress of low-pressure water, thanks in part to the resin’s excellent dimensional stability. In addition, the long-term clarity of Xantar allows visual monitoring of equipment housed in the Bocard enclosure, while the resin’s impact resistance helps prevent breakage and incursion by objects. Xantar meets UL-94 V2 @ 1,5 mm ratings, and the 22 R 01001 grade provides good flow and excellent mould release for ease of production.
