Borealis evaluates possible closure of HDPE plant in Norway
In an extraordinary Board meeting in Borealis AS today, it was decided to inform the Borealis AS Supervisory Board in an extraordinary meeting February 13 about the ongoing evaluation of the future of the Borealis high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in Bamble, Norway. A potential closure of the plant in 2006 is one of the options being considered.

GE e la città di Torino presentano in Piazza Solferino il monumento per celebrare i Giochi Olimpici Invernali di Torino 2006
BERGEN OP ZOOM, OLANDA — 1 febbraio 2006 — GE, Partner mondiale dei Giochi Olimpici, e la città di Torino hanno presentato oggi un monumento ispirato alle Olimpiadi dedicato ai cittadini e ai visitatori di Torino in occasione dei Giochi Olimpici Invernali del 2006. Il sindaco Sergio Chiamparino e Giuseppe Recchi, Presidente di GE in Italia, hanno partecipato all’evento, che si è svolto presso la pista di pattinaggio GE Ice Plaza in Piazza Solferino nel cuore del centro storico di Torino, dove la struttura rimarrà per tutta la durata dei Giochi. Il monumento è un regalo alla città da parte dei 300.000 dipendenti GE in tutto il mondo.

DSM Dyneema Achieves ISO 13485 Certification for Dyneema® Purity Fiber Operations
Urmond (NL), January 31 – DSM Dyneema, the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, today announced its Dyneema® Purity operations have been certified under the international ISO 13485:2003 standard. Dyneema® Purity, an ultra-high-molecularweight polyethylene fiber that is, weight for weight, 15 times stronger than steel, is used in high-performance medical applications such as orthopedic surgery sutures. Supplementing the ISO 9001 standard, ISO 13485 provides certification of a quality management system dedicated to medical devices.

DSM material innovation improves bobsleigh stability
The bobsleighs to be used by the Dutch Olympic Team at the Olympic Games in Turin contain special DSM vibration dampers that make the bobsleigh more stable. This reduces the risk of steering errors and means that better times can be achieved. The vibration dampers reduce the number of vibrations in the bobsleigh runners to 40% compared with the dampers traditionally used for bobsleighs.

RIVESTIMENTI PER CUSTODIE BOCARD DI BOPLA TRASPARENTI E RESISTENTI GRAZIE AL PC XANTAR® DI DSM
BOPLA Gehäuse Systeme GmbH (Bünde, Germania) ha scelto il policarbonato Xantar® di DSM Engineering Plastics per i rivestimenti trasparenti della famiglia di custodie in plastica per l’elettronica Bocard. I pannelli trasparenti dei rivestimenti sono fatti con la resina Xantar 22 R 01001. I rivestimenti, conformi alle specifiche IEC 529 IP65, isolano dalla polvere e riducono al minimo l’entrata di acqua a bassa pressione, grazie, in parte, all’eccellente stabilità dimensionale della resina. Inoltre, la trasparenza che dura nel tempo dello Xantar consente il monitoraggio visivo dell’impianto ospitato nella custodia Bocard e, allo stesso tempo, la resistenza all’urto della resina previene la rottura e l’infiltrazione di oggetti. Xantar è conforme agli indici UL-94 V2 a 1,5 mm e il grado 22 R 01001 offre buona fluidità ed eccellenti qualità di stampaggio per una maggiore lavorabilità.
