GREAT LAKES INCREASES PRICES OF ALL BROMINE AND PHOSPHORUS-BASED FLAME RETARDANTS
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced it will increase prices worldwide by 20 percent for all bromine-based flame retardants and by USD 0.35/kg for all phosphorus-based flame retardants within its Polymer Additives division, effective for shipments beginning January 1, 2005, or as contracts allow. These price increases are in addition to all other increases previously announced.

ECMSA back on the European Map

Borealis polypropylene chosen for heating and air conditioning pipe installation in La Scala refit
Milan, Italy’s world-famous La Scala opera house will reopen on December 7 after the completion of a massive renovation project that has kept its curtains closed for almost three years. Spectators will be kept in more comfort than ever before, thanks in part to the installation of a new heating and air conditioning system that uses plastic pipes and fittings made from Borealis polypropylene. The existing metal pipe installation has been entirely replaced.

Da oggi, i produttori di componenti per autoveicoli possono avvalersi di Arnite® TV8 260, un nuovo polibutilene tereftalato (PBT) caricato con il 30% di fibra di vetro, ideale per l’alloggiamento degli ingranaggi del motore elettrico per il tergicristallo posteriore montato su fuoristrada e station wagon. Rispetto ai tradizionali materiali alternativi pressofusi o in lamiera, gli alloggiamenti in Arnite occupano meno spazio, richiedono meno pezzi ed operazioni di assemblaggio ridotte; consentono altresì una gamma di possibilità di progettazione più ampia, adattandosi così a veicoli che presentano forme scolpite e spazi confinati. Oltre alla riduzione dei tempi di stampaggio, grazie alla densità inferiore che caratterizza il PBT Arnite, si ottiene un consumo di materiale inferiore del 10-13% rispetto ad altre resine termoplastiche.
