Los compuestos LNP* Thermocomp* HSG de GE Plastics constituyen una gran alternativa al plomo en aplicaciones de apantallamiento de la radiación
BERGEN OP ZOOM, PAÍSES BAJOS — 01 de agosto de 2007 — GE Plastics ha anunciado la comercialización de una nueva línea de materiales termoplásticos con una elevada gravedad específica (en inglés, High Specific Gravity, HSG) que pueden sustituir al plomo en numerosas aplicaciones sanitarias que requieren un apantallamiento de la radiación. Los equipos y dispositivos médicos que generan rayos X y rayos gamma deben estar apantallados para proteger a los operadores, médicos, pacientes y componentes electrónicos sensibles frente a las fugas del tubo y a la dispersión ambiental. Los compuestos LNP* Thermocomp* HSG de GE presentan una elevada densidad y un buen apantallamiento de la radiación, permiten crear soluciones de apantallamiento de rayos X sin requerir el uso de conocidas sustancias tóxicas, al tiempo que proporcionan una mayor libertad de diseño y admiten un mayor volumen de fabricación con un menor coste total de la pieza gracias al uso del moldeo por inyección.
