GE and the City of Torino Unveil Monument in Piazza Solferino to Commemorate Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — February 1, 2006 — GE, a worldwide partner of the Olympic Games, and the city of Torino today unveiled an Olympic-themed monument dedicated to the residents and visitors of the city for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Torino Mayor Sergio Chiamparino and president of GE Italy Giuseppe Recchi attended the event at the GE Ice Plaza in Piazza Solferino, in the heart of Torino’s historic city center, where the structure will remain through the Games. The monument is a gift from GE’s 300,000 worldwide employees to the city.

DSM Dyneema Achieves ISO 13485 Certification for Dyneema® Purity Fiber Operations
Urmond (NL), January 31 – DSM Dyneema, the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, today announced its Dyneema® Purity operations have been certified under the international ISO 13485:2003 standard. Dyneema® Purity, an ultra-high-molecularweight polyethylene fiber that is, weight for weight, 15 times stronger than steel, is used in high-performance medical applications such as orthopedic surgery sutures. Supplementing the ISO 9001 standard, ISO 13485 provides certification of a quality management system dedicated to medical devices.

DSM material innovation improves bobsleigh stability
The bobsleighs to be used by the Dutch Olympic Team at the Olympic Games in Turin contain special DSM vibration dampers that make the bobsleigh more stable. This reduces the risk of steering errors and means that better times can be achieved. The vibration dampers reduce the number of vibrations in the bobsleigh runners to 40% compared with the dampers traditionally used for bobsleighs.

BOPLA Gehäuse systeme GmbH (Bünde, Alemania) ha escogido el policarbonato Xantar® de DSM Engineering Plastics para las tapas transparentes de su línea Bocard de carcasas de plástico para equipos electrónicos. Los paneles transparentes de las tapas están fabricados con Xantar 22 R 01001. La tapa cumple las especificaciones IEC529IP65, es hermética al polvo y minimiza la entrada de humedad y de lluvia, gracias en parte a la excelente estabilidad dimensional de la resina. Además, la transparencia a largo plazo del Xantar permite un control visual del equipo alli alojado mientras que la resistencia al impacto ayuda a evitar la rotura y la incursión de objetos. EL Xantar tiene la clasificación UL94 V2 a 1.5 mm de espesor y el grado 22 R 01001 proporciona buena fluidez y excelente desmoldeo para facilitar la producción.
