FIREMASTER® 550: Factsheet
* Great Lakes Chemical Corporation will replace Penta-PBDE with a new product called Firemaster® 550. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has completed preliminary studies of the penta replacement and determined that it does not meet the standards that would necessitate categorizing it as a PBT. This means that the new product is not Persistent in the environment, Bioaccumulative in organisms or Eco-Toxic.

THANKS TO NEW PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY, GREAT LAKES CHEMICAL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THAT IT WILL CEASE PRODUCTION OF PENTA-PBDE FLAME RETARDANT BY END OF 2004
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK), citing years of research, advances in technology and a favorable environmental assessment by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of what the company calls the “new generation” of flame retardants, today announced that it will voluntarily cease production of two widely-used flame retardant chemicals, penta- and octa- polybrominated diphenyl ether, by the end of 2004. Great Lakes will replace Penta-PBDE with a new product called Firemaster® 550.

La tecnología de Battenfeld Gloucester abre mercados nuevos para Eastern Packaging
Con el objetivo de aumentar su presencia en el mercado de bolsas plásticas, la compañía Eastern Packaging acaba de instalar nueva tecnología a la vez que actualizó parte de sus equipos más antiguos en su planta de Lawrence, Massachusetts. Mediante la adición de un nuevo extrusor Contracool® de 3½” y un paquete de dados de extrusión 10” adquiridos a Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering de Gloucester, Massachusetts ha aumentado en forma muy significativa la capacidad de producción de la línea hasta un 40% para materiales de LDPE a la vez que la calidad de la película mejoró y logró la habilidad de producir 100% LLDPE.

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Nov. 17, 2003 – U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Clifford M. Sobel, will dedicate Eastman Chemical Company’s (NYSE: EMN) new regional headquarters in Capelle aan den IJssel, in ceremonies to be held this Thursday, Nov. 20, at the new facility near Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The facility manages and supports Eastman’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
