Clariant opens the door for productivity and sustainability in pharmaceutical packaging with European Pharmacopeia tested additives
Muttenz, February 12, 2014 – Clariant, one of the world leaders in specialty chemicals, supports the Healthcare industry with a range of products developed for medical devices and pharmaceutical plastic packaging. With its knowledge, Clariant’s MEVOPUR® nucleant product brings improvements in the process of plastic packaging fabrication. Thanks to them the processing time can be reduced; mechanical properties improved and so companies can save time and increase the productivity. The nucleating agents used in MEVOPUR products are pre-tested using extraction protocols such as those established by US Pharmacopeia, ISO and NEW European Pharmacopeia monograph 3.1.3; the goal is helping companies to meet the challenging regulatory requirements to support “Controlled, Consistent and Compliant”.

Clariant launches new ‘EP’ masterbatch range for pharmaceutical packaging at Pharmapack Europe 2014 Paris
Muttenz, February 12, 2014 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, Since the launch of the MEVOPUR® range of masterbatch and compounds for Healthcare applications at the end of 2010, Clariant has been active in bring new ideas and products to the market, with the objective of ‘Enhancing Products and Process’ and ‘Protecting the Patient and the Drug’. In particular in the last 12 months, new additive masterbatches have attracted high interest because Clariant had pre-tested the raw materials for the masterbatches using the extraction and biological evaluation protocols of US Pharmacopeia (USP) 23 parts 87 and 88. However initial feed-back raised the question of whether the substances were also listed European Pharmacopeia chapter 3.1.3 (EP 3.1.3). Clariant has reacted to this feed-back and recently completed a test programme on raw materials of its masterbatches, and is now offering products that use raw materials that have been pre-evaluated to both the above USP and EP standards.

Clariant verkauft ihr Wasserbehandlungsgeschäft an die südafrikanische AECI
Muttenz, 11. Februar 2014 – Clariant, ein weltweit führendes Spezialchemie-unternehmen, hat heute die Unterzeichung einer Vereinbarung zum Verkauf des Wasserbehandlungsgeschäftes in Afrika an die in Südafrika ansässige AECI bekannt gegeben. Die Verkaufssumme beläuft sich auf 34 Mio. CHF in bar; der Abschluss wird Ende des zweiten Quartals 2014 erwartet. Die Transaktion unterliegt aufschiebenden Bedingungen und behördlichen Genehmigungsverfahren.

DSM announces Akulon and Novamid polyamide 6 compound price increase for Europe and the Americas
As a result of increasing raw material prices DSM will increase the price for its Akulon® and Novamid® polyamide 6 compounds. DSM will increase prices by € 100/t in Europe, and by $0.10/lb in North and South America. This increase will take effect for all orders shipped on or after March 1, 2014 where contracts allow.
