Borealis evaluates possible closure of HDPE plant in Norway
In an extraordinary Board meeting in Borealis AS today, it was decided to inform the Borealis AS Supervisory Board in an extraordinary meeting February 13 about the ongoing evaluation of the future of the Borealis high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in Bamble, Norway. A potential closure of the plant in 2006 is one of the options being considered.

GE und die Stadt Turin feiern die Olympischen Winterspiele 2006 in Turin mit einem Denkmal auf der Piazza Solferino
BERGEN OP ZOOM, NIEDERLANDE — 1. Februar 2006 — GE, weltweiter Partner der Olympischen Spiele, und die Stadt Turin haben heute ein olympiabezogenes Monument eingeweiht, welches den Einwohnern und Besuchern der Stadt anlässlich der Olympischen Winterspiele 2006 in Turin gewidmet ist. Turins Bürgermeister Sergio Chiamparino und Giuseppe Recchi, President von GE Italy, wohnten der Veranstaltung am GE Ice Plaza bei, die auf der Piazza Solferino im Herzen des historischen Stadtkerns von Turin stattfand. Das Kunstwerk wird dort bis zum Ende der Spiele verbleiben und ist ein Geschenk der 300.000 Mitarbeiter, die GE auf der ganzen Welt beschäftigt.

DSM Dyneema Achieves ISO 13485 Certification for Dyneema® Purity Fiber Operations
Urmond (NL), January 31 – DSM Dyneema, the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, today announced its Dyneema® Purity operations have been certified under the international ISO 13485:2003 standard. Dyneema® Purity, an ultra-high-molecularweight polyethylene fiber that is, weight for weight, 15 times stronger than steel, is used in high-performance medical applications such as orthopedic surgery sutures. Supplementing the ISO 9001 standard, ISO 13485 provides certification of a quality management system dedicated to medical devices.

DSM material innovation improves bobsleigh stability
The bobsleighs to be used by the Dutch Olympic Team at the Olympic Games in Turin contain special DSM vibration dampers that make the bobsleigh more stable. This reduces the risk of steering errors and means that better times can be achieved. The vibration dampers reduce the number of vibrations in the bobsleigh runners to 40% compared with the dampers traditionally used for bobsleighs.

BOCARD-GEHÄUSE VON BOPLA BIETET KLARE TRANSPARENZ UND FESTIGKEIT DANK XANTAR® POLYCARBONAT VON DSM
BOPLA Gehäuse Systeme GmbH (Bünde) hat sich bei den klar transparenten Deckeln der Elektronikgehäuse der Baureihe Bocard für Xantar® Polycarbonat von DSM Engineering Plastics entschieden. Die Deckel der Kunststoffgehäuse werden aus Xantar 22 R 01001 spritzgegossen. Die ausgezeichnete Dimensionsstabilität des Materials sichert die Dichtheit der Deckel im Einklang mit Schutzklasse IP65 gemäß IEC 529 gegen das Eindringen von Staub und Niederdruckwasser. Die dauerhafte Transparenz von Xantar ermöglicht außerdem die Sichtprüfung der Elektronik im Gehäuse, während die charakteristische Schlagzähigkeit des Polycarbonats vor Deckelbruch und eindringenden Gegenständen schützt. Xantar erfüllt die Anforderungen der UL94 zur Flammwidrigkeitseinstufung V2 bei 1,5 mm Wanddicke. Bei der Verarbeitung bietet Xantar 22 R 01001 darüber hinaus gutes Fließverhalten und ausgezeichnete Formtrenneigenschaften.
