Syensqo’s Moerdijk plant receives ISCC PLUS mass-balance certification for bio-circular products
Certification enables the use of bio-circular raw materials to produce 100% natural, lower-carbon surfactants for laundry care brands
Brussels, December 16, 2025 - Syensqo’s manufacturing site in Moerdijk, the Netherlands, has obtained ISCC PLUS mass balance certification for a key Rhodasurf® laundry care surfactant produced at its on-pipe ethoxylation[1] facilities.
The certification confirms that the site has a third-party-validated process in place, known as a chain of custody, to track bio-circular ethoxylate feedstocks. Equipped with this certification, Syensqo will begin supplying certified laureth-7 for liquid laundry detergents with its Rhodasurf® B7 UP product starting in January 2026.
ISCC PLUS certification verifies that bio-circular raw materials are introduced and allocated along the Ethylene Oxide value chain, enabling the production of natural alcohol ethoxylates with a lower carbon footprint. Customers benefit from a drop-in solution that requires no changes to existing formulations or supply chains.
“Securing ISCC PLUS certification for our Moerdijk ethoxylation unit marks an important step in expanding the availability of 100% natural[2], low-carbon-footprint surfactants for the home care market,” said Max Chabert, Syensqo Global Marketing Manager for Home Care. “By applying a mass-balance approach with bio-circular feedstocks at our existing on-pipe ethoxylation facility, we can help customers accelerate the transformation of their laundry formulations while maintaining the performance, reliability and supply security they expect.”
The new certified grade addresses a core challenge for fast-moving consumer goods companies and private label manufacturers: sourcing natural-origin surfactants with a significantly reduced CO2 footprint at industrial scale. By combining ISCC PLUS chain-of-custody certification with Syensqo’s established alcohol ethoxylation capabilities, Syensqo can offer laundry care formulators robust, verified solutions for a wide array of brands and formats.
Aligned with Syensqo’s One Planet roadmap, the Moerdijk ISCC PLUS certification, which builds on earlier certification of the company’s Zhangjiagang, China, plant in 2022, strengthens Syensqo’s position as a partner for customers advancing innovation pipelines that meet growing expectations for sustainability, transparency and circularity.
