Syensqo wins SPE Innovation Awards 2025 for "Most innovative use of plastics"

Recognition for first use of Tecnoflon® FKM non-fluorosurfactant in an automotive sealing application

Brussels, November 19, 2025 - Syensqo, a global leader in high-performance polymers, proudly announces that it has won the Materials Category at the 2025 Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Innovation Awards.

A panel of industry experts and media professionals recognized Syensqo’s patented Tecnoflon® FKM NFS for its outstanding performance in a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve O-ring developed with Freudenberg Sealing Technologies and implemented on some of the most recent General Motors vehicles.

This component features Syensqo’s breakthrough polymerization process[1], which enables the production of Tecnoflon® peroxide-curable fluoroelastomers (FKM) without fluorosurfactants (NFS), while maintaining uncompromised performance. Tecnoflon® FKM NFS is now also certified for circular content, further demonstrating Syensqo’s ability to combine advanced material performance with progress toward circularity.

“This recognition represents a remarkable achievement for Syensqo, underscoring the company’s leadership in polymer innovation,” said Laura Hirschhorn, Executive Key Account Manager at Syensqo. “Our Tecnoflon® FKM NFS is a powerful example of how Syensqo continues to lead through technical excellence and strong collaboration with stakeholders such as GM and Freudenberg Sealing Technologies.”

Engine sealing applications represent one of the most demanding environments in automotive design. They require materials that can withstand continuous exposure to heat, pressure, and aggressive fluids while maintaining elasticity and integrity.

Tecnoflon® FKM NFS plays a crucial role in these systems where reliability and safety are non-negotiable. Its superior chemical and thermal resistance ensures consistent, long-term sealing performance, helping carmakers maintain engine efficiency, emissions control, and durability under the toughest operating conditions.

Tecnoflon® is a registered trademark of Syensqo.
