SPE AWARDS TWO AUTOMOTIVE DIVISION MEMBERS FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE

TROY, Mich. – [June 7, 2002]– The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) International announced that it has awarded two of its members, David Arndt and Terrance Cressy, as Honored Service Members. Both Arndt and Cressy are long-time board members of the SPE Automotive Division based here in Detroit.

The Honored Service Member Award was established in 1992. In order to be nominated, members are required to demonstrate outstanding service and support to the Society; be sponsored by a section, division, or special committee; have a minimum of 18 experience credits; and be a senior member in good standing for six consecutive years. Only 5% of SPE members have the qualifications to receive this award.

“Dave Arndt, of Visteon Corporation, began his work with the Automotive Division as the newsletter editor. He not only helped to improve the quality of this important communications vehicle, but he was instrumental in reduction of production costs,” said Fred Deans, current chairman of the board, SPE Automotive Division. “Dave’s work helped our division to win the division newsletter grand prize in 1989 and 1991.”

Arndt has been a long-time contributor to the Automotive Division, serving on the Board of Directors in various capacities for the past 14 years. He served as division chair from 1991-1992 and was very active in the planning and implementation of the ANTEC (ANnual TEchnical Conference of SPE) held in Detroit in 1992. Arndt is currently in his second term as division councilor and also has been elected as overall division chairman for the 26 SPE Divisions and special-interest groups (SIGs). He is a regular contributor to the SPE newsletter, keeping Division members informed of happenings at the national level. He attends Automotive Division Board meetings and has been a contributor to several of the Division committees, including Education, Elections, Golf, and Awards. He has been an Innovation Awards Program category chair and category presenter at the past eight Innovation Awards Programs.

“With the support of DuPont Automotive, Terrence Cressy transformed the annual Automotive Awards Program into a world-class event,” said Kevin Pageau, current chairman for the program. “Terry helped establish and develop the processes for handling the location, nominations, program agenda, and judging for the event. Without the Awards Program, the Automotive Division wouldn’t be the success it is today.”

Cressy’s support of the Automotive Division spans more than 15 years of continuous service. In 1993, he was chairman of the Division, continuing to lead the organization in the Automotive Awards Program and helping to focus the Division on membership growth. He participates actively in board meetings and activities, including public relations and press relations for the Division. He is active on the Awards Program, Safety Conference, and Composites Conference planning committees. Cressy was recently re-elected to the board and is a member until 2004.
