5 October 2026 – Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, has developed a digital print packaging solution on brown paper to support the market launch of a new Kärcher push sweeper, whose plastic components are made from 30 percent recycled material.
The packaging is designed to help communicate the product’s recycling concept while meeting Kärcher’s requirements for brand impact and print quality.
Printing high-quality brand colours on brown paper presents specific technical challenges. Mondi applies multi-colour digital printing technology with a white underprint option to achieve defined colour quality and contrast on brown substrate. This allows accurate reproduction of Kärcher’s signature yellow, while fine details such as small text, delicate design elements and EAN (European Article Number) barcodes are printed with sharp contours to support clear readability at the point of sale.
The packaging is produced using digital computer-to-print technology, which eliminates the need for printing plates and enables demand-driven production without surplus quantities. Water-based inks approved for primary packaging by Swiss Quality Testing Services (SQTS), an independent accredited testing institute for quality and product safety, are used in the process.
“As a long-standing partner, we particularly value Mondi’s ability to translate our requirements for brand impact and sustainability into packaging solutions that work in practice. For the launch of our new push sweeper, Mondi helped make the sustainability concept of our product visible on the packaging without compromising colour reproduction, design quality or brand presence,” says Janis Walker, Lead Buyer Packaging at Kärcher.
The collaboration illustrates how digital printing technology can support product launches on brown substrate while meeting brand, production and communication requirements.
