Mondi partners with Fixit Gruppe to deliver standardised paper bag portfolio reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 135 tonnes a year
- Mondi strengthens strategic partnership with Fixit Gruppe with new unified paper bag portfolio to ensure consistent packaging quality and reliable performance across more than 100 building material products.
- Greenhouse gas emissions reduced by 135 tonnes of CO2 annually through material optimisation, roughly equivalent to the annual CO2 captured by ~5,600 trees[1].
- Recyclable paper bags assessed according to the 4evergreen fibre based packaging recyclability evaluation protocol.
- Efficient 12 month project based on results of an expert audit conducted by Mondi, and delivered through strong collaboration with Fixit Gruppe teams.
12 August 2026 – Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has collaborated with Fixit Gruppe to create a unified European-wide paper bag portfolio for more than 100 building material products. The project marks a further step in the long-standing partnership between the two companies, supporting a more harmonised packaging approach across Europe while maintaining consistent packaging quality and reliable performance across a broad product range. The streamlined portfolio optimises material usage, improves design to support recycling and aligns with Fixit Gruppe’s sustainability strategy by helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 135 tonnes of CO2 compared to the previous year.
Fixit Gruppe is one of Europe’s leading system providers for building materials, supplying a wide range of products to DIY stores across the region. Previously, its products were packed in different paper bag grades and formats based on varying product needs, climate conditions and packaging regulations. Following an expert audit at Mondi’s Bag Application Centre in Frantschach, Austria, Mondi’s specialists analysed Fixit Gruppe’s existing packaging and developed an optimised, standardised solution. The project demonstrates how packaging optimisation can create value throughout the supply chain, supporting operational consistency, product performance and sustainability objectives across multiple markets.
By focusing on material usage, paper grammage, the required barrier protection and the thickness of the plastic inner layer, Mondi developed standardised paper bag formats that meet the needs of different building materials and markets. As a backward integrated producer, Mondi manufactures its own sack kraft paper for these bags, bringing deep paper expertise and an integrated value chain - end-to-end from a single source. The new paper valve bags provide the necessary moisture protection for products such as cement and other powdered materials, while ensuring an efficient and reliable filling process on Fixit Gruppe’s machinery.
Davide Battiston, International Key Account Manager, Mondi Paper Bags Italy, says: “This project shows how we help customers solve complex packaging challenges while reducing environmental impact. By analysing Fixit Gruppe’s full product range and applying our papermaking and converting expertise, we developed a standardised solution without compromising on performance. It is also a great example of how close collaboration with customers can unlock long-term value across their packaging portfolio.”
Bernhard Zott, Director of Research & Development at Fixit Gruppe, says: “We needed packaging that protects a wide range of building materials, is practical on construction sites and supports our climate strategy. Mondi assessed everything thoroughly and worked closely with our teams to improve functionality, sustainability and quality requirements.”
