Courtenay's COTENE powders and proprietary systems maintain its number one position in Australasia

DÜSSELDORF, October 25, 2001 – Courtenay is a division of ICO Incorporated (NASDAQ: ICOC), which was founded in 1970 as a small oilfield services company. Today, it is a leading provider of specialised processing and distribution services to the petrochemical industry worldwide, with facilities in North America, Europe and Australasia. Courtenay was founded in 1969 by John Courtenay and has grown with the rotational moulding industry in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Rim to its current position as the leader in technology and speciality products. It recently established an operation in Malaysia to serve the growing South East Asian markets and continues to service the industry through its ongoing investment in technology and technical support.

Courtenay's COTENE™ powders are available in 23 standard colours and over 20 specific polyethylene grades, and are used in thousands of products. In addition to the standard range of COTENE colours, Courtenay will formulate a specific colour, including marbled finishes to meet the individual needs of any customer.

Courtenay is also the agent for Mold-In-Graphic Systems® in the region. These products can be used to create long-life graphics that can't be peeled, scratched or rubbed off, as they are moulded directly into the finished product in the manufacturing process. Spray-In-Color allows the creation of multi-coloured products with their colours permanently moulded in. Other products include mould releases, surface enhancers, adhesives and the latest development; Mold-On-Graphics®, which allows graphics to be applied to the surface of

a product and heat-sealed in.

The Courtenay range of powders also includes fluidised bed materials for surface coatings, including UV resistant and adhesion-modified grades, adhesive polymers for automotive carpet backing and speciality polymers and alloys.

Courtenay's R&D laboratory allows it to assist customers with product development, process improvement and prototype moulding, as well as scaling new products up from pilot runs to full production. The facility can also analyse technical problems, help with design and material selection, evaluate new applications and test for conformity to specifications and regulations. Courtenay is also the Rotolog agent for Australia and New Zealand, the system which allows moulders, manufacturers and material developers to test the effectiveness of their moulding processes.

Recently, Courtenay has developed a whole new range of New Generation materials. These speciality materials are the result of the latest breakthroughs in polymer technology and once more, Courtenay was the first supplier in Australasia to be able to supply them. One example is the Cotene One-Shot Foam system in which foamable polyethylene is used as a lightweight, innovative material in many leisure and commercial applications.
