Harvest Polymers, UK distributor of Nexprene TPV is now able to offer NSF Certification for NexPrene 1300 series TPV line for water contact materials/fluid delivery systems

SHIRLEY, MA – Thermoplastic Rubber Systems, Inc. (TRS), the plastics industry’s newest and fastest-growing compounder of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV’s), has announced that its fully colourable NexPrene® 1300 Series of TPV’s have been certified to meet ANSI/NSF Standard Class 61 for potable water contact materials/fluid delivery systems. The end use applications include fittings, piping and appurtenances. The approved water contact temperature is Commercial Hot (82° C or 180° F).

According to TRS company officials, the NSF certification was believed to be one of the fastest in the industry. NexPrene TPV materials have also quickly and expediently gained industry recognition, certification and/or approvals for medical USP Class 6 as well as FDA compliance, and in the automotive industry

With this NSF certification, these NexPrene grades are suitable for use in products such as seals, diaphragms, tubes, gaskets, O-rings, flanges, piping and other components where the materials are used in potable water applications or fluid delivery systems. The NexPrene product line, a fully cross-linked EPDM/PP compound, is designed to replace thermoset elastomers such as EPDM, conventional thermoplastic rubber and polychloroprene (neoprene).

Advantages over other materials include lower cost processing, reduced cycle times and less scrap and trim. Further, NexPrene TPV ‘s have excellent compression set, are resistant to oil and heat as compared to vulcanized thermoset rubber, yet have the favourable characteristics of thermoset rubber materials, without the shortfalls of fatigue and abrasion resistance.

In addition, the NexPrene-certified TPV’ from TRS can be either injection moulded or extruded like other thermoplastic materials and are available in softness ranges from 35 Shore A to 50 Shore D. As an added benefit to users, the compounds can be pre-coloured by TRS at their compounding facilities or can be easily masterbatched by processors thanks to NexPrene’s clean and consistent natural colour

TRS, founded in the year 2000, has continued to make serious inroads into existing and new markets with its growing lines of NexPrene® TPV’s for automotive, construction and building products, weather-seals and other product applications. Company products have received nearly record-breaking acceptance, certification or recognition across numerous industries and among some of the world’s largest companies. NexPrene products range in hardness from Shore 35A to 50D, and offer outstanding mechanical properties and rapid cycle times - for improved performance and productivity to stay ahead of the competition.
