DSM’s engineering polymers increase their share of the French market through Distrupol
Distrupol, a member of the Univar group and a leading distributor of engineering plastics, is developing the French markets for the attractive range of engineering polymers produced by the Engineering Plastics (EP) division of Dutch materials manufacturer, DSM.
DSM EP's engineering polymers range is attractive for various reasons because it encompasses all the major engineering plastic materials families, including polycarbonates (Xantar® PC and Xantar-C® PC/ABS), polyamides (Akulon® PA6 and PA 6.6 and Stanyl® PA 4-6), polyesters (Arnite® PBT and PET) and polyester elastomers (Arnitel®). This means that there is a potential fit for an extremely wide range of challenging applications in the electro-technical/electronic, automotive and general industry sectors.
According to François-Xavier du Passage, Managing Director of Distrupol in France, the market has shown a lot of interest in the Xantar® range of polycarbonates and its range extension, Xantar-C® , as well as in the unique Stanyl® range of polyamides 4-6. Together, the Xantar® and Xantar-C product families offer a very broad range of high performance engineering plastics for applications in harsh operating environments, such as those found in the electro-technical/ electronic sector which is the core target for these products. In addition to the inherent self-extinguishing properties of PC/ABS, Xantar-C products provide a combination of strength, dimensional stability (Vicat temperature of 130°C) and a naturally white colour for applications that require both excellent mechanical performance and colours which are difficult to obtain with other PC/ABS products.
Another star player among DSM’s families of engineering polymers, is the Stanyl® range of polyamides 4-6. This is a truly unique range of products as Stanyl has the only PA 4-6 available on the market worldwide. They provide excellent heat resistance, superior to those of PA6, PA6.6, PET and PBT.
As a plastic materials distributor, Distrupol is seen as having a vigorous investment strategy, including investing in human resources, in order to provide their clients with an optimum local presence. “Our clients appreciate the expertise and wide scope of assistance we can provide in developing highly technical applications. This is reflected by the excellent growth of our high performance engineering plastics, Stanyl and Xantar-C,” says François-Xavier du Passage. Supported by a remarkably broad based product portfolio, Distrupol’s powerful strategy and the promising development of the markets for technical applications in France – driven by DSM EP’s engineering polymers – can be seen as an illustration of the company’s slogan “a polymer for every application”.
