Clariant to unveil three new ingredients at in-cosmetics Asia 2026, led by Eclipsogen™ CAP Duo Z for simpler hybrid sunscreen formulation

  • New ready-to-use dispersion combines three organic UV filters and zinc oxide in one cold-processable system for photostable, broad-spectrum hybrid sunscreens with a more uniform film
  • New Sensotain™ ILS emollient helps protect light-sensitive actives such as avobenzone and retinol, while the new GlucoTain™ Pro P foam booster and GlucoTain Sense combine rich foam with mildness in cleansers
  • Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant highlights AlgaSurge™, vegan PDRN from red microalgae, alongside Lysofix™ Liquid cold process emulsifier

MUTTENZ, November 3, 2026 - Clariant, a sustainability-focused specialty chemical company, will present its latest personal care innovations at in-cosmetics Asia 2026 in Bangkok, led by Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z, a new hybrid UV filter system that simplifies the formulation of high-protection sunscreens. The showcase also includes two more new ingredients, the Sensotain ILS emollient for complex sun care and skin care formulas and the GlucoTain Pro P foam booster for mild cleansing, alongside the latest natural actives from Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant.

Hybrid sun care made simpler

Sun care launches in Asia Pacific rose by 85% between 2021 and 2025, reaching 1,318 new products in 2025[1]. At the same time, 67% of consumers in Asia are concerned about visible white cast; 58% prefer lightweight, non-greasy textures; and 52% are interested in sunscreens that combine organic and inorganic UV filters[2].

Hybrid sunscreens that combine organic UV filters with zinc oxide can reach high, broad-spectrum protection with less white cast than mineral-only products, but they are complex to formulate. Clariant’s Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z is a ready-to-use hybrid UV filter dispersion that removes this complexity. The dispersion combines three organic UV filters (DHHB, EHT and BEMT) with zinc oxide in one hybrid system containing 38.5% total UV filter actives. Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z allows a simplified process of formulation for hybrid sunscreen, without the need of separate dispersion of UV filters. The cold-processable system supports low-energy manufacturing and suits serum, lotion, cream and milk formats.

In-house in vitro testing in a cream base at 9% total UV filter actives showed an SPF of 82.5 with Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z, compared with 67.8 for the equivalent free UV filter system. An external study confirmed its photostability and broad-spectrum protection, with the critical wavelength maintained at 377 nm after six hours of natural light. Under the tested conditions, the dispersion also formed a more uniform film than free UV filters, for a seamless finish with less visible white cast. In a patch test on 33 volunteers with sensitive skin, a sunscreen formulation containing Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z caused no skin reactions.

"Sun protection has become part of everyday routines for consumers in Asia, and they expect strong protection in light textures that leave no white cast," said Vipul Bhatt, Head of APAC Personal and Home Care at Clariant. "With Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z, we bring organic UV filters and zinc oxide together in one ready-to-use system, so formulators can create high-protection hybrid sunscreens with fewer process steps. High protection no longer has to mean high complexity."

Clariant's sunscreen formulations with Eclipsogen CAP Duo Z also feature Sensotain ILS, a multifunctional emollient ingredient designed for modern skincare formulations, offering superior UV filter solubilization, excellent pigment wetting and dispersion and enhanced photostability of sensitive actives. With its light, fast-spreading feel, efficient pigment dispersion and low odor, it suits daily sunscreens, serum-like SPF formats and color cosmetics.

Rich foam and mildness for cleansing

From its "Gentle Giants" mild surfactant portfolio, Clariant will unveil GlucoTain Pro P, a new ultra-mild foam booster that delivers abundant flash foam even in the presence of oils, making it well suited to facial cleansers for oily skin, makeup removers and anti-dandruff shampoos. In hair color tests, it reduced color fading by 30% compared with SLES after three washes. GlucoTain surfactants are sugar-based and among the mildest on the market, with an ocular irritation score (MIOI) of 4.8, in the non-irritant range, compared with 30.3 for SLES. GlucoTain Sense, made from European sunflower oil and glucose, is a palm-free sensory additive that gives rinse-off products a creamier foam and a caring after-feel while helping to build viscosity, so less salt is needed. Both are COSMOS-approved, with a Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) of 93% and 96% respectively. GlucoTain Pro P is also available RSPO Mass Balance certified.

Natural actives from Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant

Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant, a Quebec-based supplier of active and functional cosmetic ingredients and part of Clariant since 2024, will highlight AlgaSurge, a skin longevity active that targets three hallmarks of skin aging and contains a biotechnology-derived, vegan PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) from red microalgae. Just 2.5 ppb of AlgaSurge PDRN increased procollagen I production by 40%, outperforming salmon PDRN used at 500 ppm, at a staggering 200,000× lower DNA content. Its small molecular size of fewer than 100 base pairs supports skin penetration, offering brands a vegan alternative to animal-derived PDRN.

Visitors can also discover new efficacy data for Lysofix Liquid, a gentle, silky cold process emulsifier, showing that it soothes and reinforces the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin, while also fortifying hair and facilitating dry combing.

Clariant and Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant will showcase these innovations at in-cosmetics Asia 2026 on November 3-5 at BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand, Booth Z50, Hall 103. Visitors can experience the ingredients firsthand and discuss how these innovations can support their product development goals.
