Clariant extends capabilities for its continuous strip desiccant packets on reels for high-speed automated packaging lines

  • Desi Pak™, Sorb-It™, and Tri-Sorb™ Strips deliver moisture protection in continuous strip format wound on reels for automated insertion equipment
  • Extending production capabilities to the Americas helps reduce labor costs and inventory complexity for nutraceuticals and other industries while maintaining superior moisture control
  • Innovation builds on Clariant's 80+ years of desiccant and humidity indicator expertise to meet growing demand for packaging automation

CHARLOTTE, NC, April 23, 2026 - Clariant has expanded its moisture protection portfolio with the launch of continuous strip desiccant packet reels, bringing trusted performance to high-speed automated packaging operations to the Americas. In addition to our current capabilities in EMEA, this expanded product line, including Desi Pak, Sorb-It, and Tri-Sorb Strips, are desiccant packets manufactured in a continuous strip format, wound on reels for integration with automated insertion equipment for high-speed packaging lines, enabling manufacturers to enhance efficiency while maintaining the superior moisture control that Clariant's brands have delivered for decades.

As industries increasingly adopt automated packaging solutions, the demand for desiccant formats that can keep pace with high-speed production lines has intensified. Clariant's continuous strip desiccants answers this need by offering a ready-to-use format that eliminates manual handling and helps reduce labor costs through high-speed reel-fed desiccant loading systems. Compatible with existing desiccant insertion equipment, these strips help reduce inventory complexity and setup, allowing manufacturers to streamline their operations without costly equipment modifications.

The innovation draws on Clariant's deep heritage in moisture protection with over 80 years of combined expertise in desiccant solutions and humidity indicators. This extensive experience ensures that the new strip format delivers the same reliable performance as Clariant’s single desiccant packets now optimized for modern automated packaging environments.

The expanded product line features three distinct desiccant chemistries to address varied moisture protection requirements. Desi Pak Strips utilize naturally occurring, responsibly mined bentonite clay for broad-spectrum, cost-effective moisture control. Sorb-It Strips employ silica gel for applications requiring precise high-humidity management. Tri-Sorb Strips incorporate molecular sieve technology for the most demanding moisture protection needs. All three options are available in packet sizes ranging from ½ gram to 5 grams providing flexibility across diverse product categories and packaging configurations.

"Our customers are investing in automation to improve efficiency and reduce costs, and their moisture protection solutions need to evolve alongside their packaging lines," said Ryan Grauer, Head of Technical Business Development Cargo & Device Protection Americas. "These continuous strip desiccants represent a significant innovation in how manufacturers can protect their products, combining the proven performance of our trusted brands with the convenience and speed that modern packaging operations demand."

These strip desiccants provide a solution for helping prevent moisture damage in properly enclosed packages or containers helping preserve product efficacy and shelf life. Quality assurance remains paramount in Clariant's manufacturing approach. The company is implementing AI-based inspection systems to help ensure consistent packet integrity and uniformity across every reel, beginning with its Americas manufacturing operations. This advanced quality control, combined with manufacturing facilities that maintain ISO certifications and utilize FDA and EU compliant materials, provides customers with confidence that their moisture protection meets the highest standards for safety and reliability.

Sustainability leadership with Desi Pak ECO Continuous Strip Desiccant Packets on reels

Clariant's commitment to environmental responsibility is exemplified through Desi Pak ECO Strips, which use the same responsibly mined, eco-friendly natural bentonite clay desiccant as standard Desi Pak Strips. Complete control of mining and processing ensures consistent quality and performance, while mining sites are reclaimed and recultivated to meet or exceed Clariant's high environmental standards. The production process delivers reduced energy consumption and lower emissions due to a less complex manufacturing approach.

Desi Pak ECO Strips feature a plastic-free, bio-based continuous strip packets made from raw materials that are sustainably grown, utilizing non-toxic, water-based ink and adhesive. This comprehensive approach to sustainability enables manufacturers to advance their environmental goals without compromising moisture protection performance. Similar to all of Clariant's other desiccant fills, U.S. Pharmacopeia USP <670> compliant clay is available upon request, ensuring regulatory compliance alongside environmental stewardship.

The continuous strip desiccant packets wound on reels portfolio serves a broad spectrum of industries where moisture control is critical to product quality and longevity. Nutraceutical and health supplement manufacturers benefit from reliable protection of sensitive vitamins and minerals. Personal care and diagnostic companies can safeguard moisture-sensitive test strips and cosmetic products. Medical device manufacturers gain compliant moisture protection for device packaging, while food producers can extend freshness and prevent spoilage. Clariant's global manufacturing network helps to ensure reliable supply and consistent quality for customers worldwide, supporting efficient supply chain operations and uninterrupted production schedules.
