Business consolidation will make Distrupol the leading polymer distributor in Europe’s Nordic region

DistrupolOn 1 October 2001 Vopak Chemical Distribution will consolidate its MBS Plastics business with Distrupol, the polymer distributor it acquired with its takeover of Ellis & Everard earlier this year. Under the name Distrupol AB, this rationalisation will bring together the sales and logistics operations of both companies to provide for greater efficiencies in serving customers’ needs, as well as more effective employment of resources.

VICTREX® PEEK polymer replaces ceramic-coated aluminium in wire processing machines

Spühl AG St. Gallen, Switzerland has replaced ceramic-coated aluminium grippers with parts injection moulded in a lubricated grade of Victrex® PEEK™ polymer due to its high mechanical, thermal and tribological properties and cost-efficient, consistent ease of manufacture. People spend about one third of their lives in bed, and so there is an obvious need to pay special attention to the quality of the design, materials and manufacturing of mattresses. Spühl AG St. Gallen, Switzerland, are global leaders in wire processing equipment for mattress springs and spring interiors, and supply their advanced machines to the mattress and upholstery industry worldwide.

KaVo Company in Biberach, Germany, selected VICTREX® PEEK™ for a sterilisation box of a root canal instrumentation system, because of the materials resistance to multiple sterilisation cycles as well as high mechanical properties and aesthetic appearance.
KaVo company in Biberach, Germany, supplies medical installations, devices and laboratory equipment to dental care customers around the world. For a sterilisation box with integrated special files retainers – part of the company’s ENDOflash® root canal instrumentation system – KaVo selected a black grade of VICTREX® PEEK™ Polymer. Major requirements to be met by the material included resistance to multiple sterilisation as well as high mechanical properties and aesthetic appearance.

Sensors made with VICTREX® PEEK polymer can monitor a broad range of acidic and caustic applications

Quantum Analytical chose Victrex PEEK™ polymer because of its unique combination of mechanical and chemical properties that allows one product to be used in both acidic and caustic applications, ranging from potable water and chemical feed to wastewater and food processing. Quantum Analytical Instruments, Inc., a subsidiary of Racine Federated Inc., located in Racine, Wisconsin, USA, have specified VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer, for the sensor housing and structural components of analytical sensors to be used in a broad range of process measurement applications. Quantum Analytical's new line of sensors is designed for continuous monitoring of pH, Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP), Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen in all industrial process control, as well as municipal and environmental monitoring applications.

VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer is an ideal substrate for a new durable metallisation process

Max Schlötter GmbH & Co. Kg of Geislingen/Steige, Germany. The SLOTOSIT KM process has been designed specifically to meet industry needs for highly durable polymer metallisation combined with a high level of mechanical and thermal performance. Companies are successfully using the process to plate PEEK™ polymer with copper, providing a tailor-made material for demanding electronic applications such as flexible circuit boards and parts for moulded interconnect devices.

Victrex plc and Ballard Power Systems Inc have entered into an exclusive agreement to develop two separate ionomers (proton conductive polymers) for use in membranes for Ballard® fuel cells. Ballard’s Power Systems' Mark 900 fuel cell stack is designed for the automotive market and an example of where this new manufacturing technology could be used. Another market for this new technology could be the portable power systems market.
Victrex plc and Ballard Power Systems Inc announced today that they have entered into an exclusive agreement to develop and manufacture two separate ionomers (proton conductive polymers) for use in membranes for Ballard® fuel cells. Victrex and Ballard will develop the manufacturing processes for Ballard's proprietary ionomer and collaborate on the development of Victrex's proprietary ionomer.
