Clariant enables Oslo Airport to recycle two-thirds of aircraft de-icer

© “Courtesy of Vestergaard”Muttenz, 13 September 2011 – A new Clariant recycling plant for aircraft de-icer is being inaugurated today at Norway’s Oslo International Airport. In the coming 2011-12 winter, it is expected that the unit will reprocess 60-70% of the aircraft de-icer fluid (ADF) used in Oslo. The recycled product – mono propylene glycol (MPG) – will substitute an estimated 700 metric tonnes per year of virgin material in de-icing and heat transfer applications.

Solide Ergebnisse in schwierigem Umfeld – Ausblick für das Gesamtjahr bestätigt

• Umsatz in Lokalwährung stieg im 2. Quartal dank eines soliden Geschäftsumfeldes und aufgrund von Preiserhöhungen um 14%, ging jedoch wegen der weiteren Aufwertung des Schweizer Frankens um 1% in CHF zurück. Ergebnisse der Süd-Chemie wurden für Mai und Juni 2011 konsolidiert.
• EBITDA vor Einmaleffekten betrug im Q2 CHF 241 Millionen gegenüber CHF 264 Millionen im Vorjahr; negative Währungseinflüsse von CHF 69 Millionen.
• EBITDA-Marge vor Einmaleffekten im 2. Quartal 12,9% im Vergleich zu 13,9%; die EBITDA-Marge bei konstanten Währungen betrug 14,3%.
• Operativer Cashflow im Q2 bei minus CHF 101 Millionen, da Lagerbestände aufgrund von Produktionsverlagerungen und der üblichen Saisonalität anstiegen.
• Integration der Süd-Chemie schreitet planmässig voran.
• Ausblick: Clariant erwartet im 2. Halbjahr 2011 ein schwierigeres, aber dennoch solides Geschäftsumfeld, das durch abgeschwächte Nachfrage gekennzeichnet sein wird. Ausgehend von diesem Szenario - unter der Annahme, dass in den Devisenmärkten keine weitere Verschlechterung eintritt und unter Einbeziehung der konsolidierten Ergebnisse der Süd-Chemie für acht Monate - bestätigt Clariant die Prognose für das Gesamtjahr 2011, mit einem Umsatz zwischen CHF 7,8 und 8,0 Milliarden und einer EBITDA-Marge von 13,5 bis 14,5%.

CEO Hariolf Kottmann: „Im ersten Halbjahr 2011 bewegten wir uns trotz des abgeschwächten weltweiten Wirtschaftswachstums im Vergleich zum Jahr 2010 in einem robusten Geschäftsumfeld, das im Jahresvergleich zu einem verbesserten operativen Ergebnis führte. Die starke Aufwertung des Schweizer Frankens wirkte sich jedoch negativ auf die Ergebnisse aus. Die vor kurzem erworbene Süd-Chemie hat in den beiden ersten Monaten der Konsolidierung unsere Erwartungen erfüllt. Die Integration schreitet planmässig voran. Aufgrund dieser Entwicklungen sind wir zuversichtlich, unsere Ziele für das Gesamtjahr 2011 zu erreichen.“
