The newest HYDROCEROL® chemical foaming agents from Clariant Masterbatches create a finer and more uniform cell structure that allows significant weight reduction without compromising product performance properties. (Photo: Clariant)Muttenz, November 4, 2010 - Plastics products and packaging manufacturers trying to reach sustainability goals and reduce costs are expressing keen interest in the newest chemical foaming agents (CFAs) from Clariant’s Masterbatches Business Unit. The finer and more durable foam-cell structures made possible by the latest generation of HYDROCEROL® masterbatches, in combination with processing advances, are opening new applications in
• polyester (PET) plastic sheets used for food trays
• automotive parts and other durable goods
• injection molded and blow molded plastics packaging, caps and closures
Savings on resin use and reduction of part weight – without significant loss in mechanical properties – are being reported.

Bringing distinctive style to medical devices while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance

Computer modeling services in Clariant ColorWorks™ allowed a medical device manufacturer to easily evaluate different color schemes. Pictured are blue pearlescent and purple pearlescent options and the translucent purple finally chosen for the device. (Photographs: Clariant)Muttenz, November 4, 2010 - In today’s competitive marketplace manufacturers must try to differentiate their product from others by improving functionality and design. Use of drug delivery devices increasingly occurs outside of a hospital setting and since it is the patient rather than a doctor who is the user, the device must be attractive as well as convenient and functional. They become more like any other consumer product. That is why color and other visual elements are increasingly important in device design.

SABIC Innovative Plastics’ New Extem* UP Resins Crank Up the Heat with Highest Continuous Use Temperature Rating for Unfilled Thermoplastic

Magnet Wires Can Be Made Using SABIC Innovative Plastics’ Extem* Resins>BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – November 3, 2010 – At K 2010, in Hall 6, Stand D42, SABIC Innovative Plastics is showcasing its global technological leadership with another outstanding achievement: one of the industry’s highest continuous use temperature rating for an unfilled thermoplastic material. New flame-retardant Extem* UP thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) resins are extreme high-heat materials that recently achieved a UL746B relative temperature index (RTI) rating of 240C. By incorporating polyetheretherketone (PEEK) into its proven ultra-performance Extem resin technology, SABIC Innovative Plastics is able to offer customers optimized performance combining the best of both materials. This unique blend technology opens new opportunities for lower-weight, high-temperature continuous use applications such as semiconductor chip trays, connectors for harsh environments, and metal replacement in high-heat oil and gas and aerospace environments. This new breakthrough technology demonstrates once again SABIC Innovative Plastics’ commitment to the proactive development of unique specialty resins that meets the highest performance demands of customers.
