GE sorgt bei Farm Fresh für Durchblick beim Einkauf von Tiefkühlkost und spart gleichzeitig Energie Reducing Energy Costs
Fast jeder Konsument kennt die frustrierende Erfahrung, dass der Inhalt von Kühlvitrinen im Supermarkt hinter zugefrorenen Scheiben oft nur schwer erkennbar ist. Bisher behalf man sich im Ladenbau mit beheizten Türscheiben, um beim Öffnen einer Kühlvitrine die Kondenswasserbildung durch einströmende Warmluft aus dem Laden zu verhindern. Farm Fresh, eine im oberen Segment angesiedelte amerikanische Supermarktkette und Teil des Konzerns SUPERVALU, fand Türheizungen wegen des hohen Energieverbrauchs zu teuer, zeitraubend zu installieren und zudem nicht besonders wirksam beim Verhindern von Beschlag. Als GE Plastics an Farm Fresh herantrat und eine neue Antibeschlagfolie aus Polycarbonat (PC) für Kühlvitrinentüren präsentierte, beschloss das Unternehmen, die Technologie in mehreren ihrer 44 Filialen im US-Bundesstaat Virginia zu testen.

April 2007 — GE Plastics hat sein ecomagination* Produktportfolio durch eine neue Hochleistungs-Polycarbonatfolie aus Lexan* (Patent angemeldet) erweitert, welche die Kondensation auf den Glastüren von Kühl- und Tiefkühlregalen ohne Beheizen des Glases verhindern kann. Die kristallklare Lexan Constant Clear Folio mit patentierter Antibeschlagausrüstung haftet an Glastüren und verhindert Kondensationsbildung, wenn Käufer die Kühl- und Tiefkühlregale öffnen. Die Lexan Constant Clear Folie macht nicht nur das Einkaufserlebnis positiver, indem sie das Beschlagen von Glastüren verhindert und dafür sorgt, dass die Produkte immer voll sichtbar sind, sondern sie kann auch eine bedeutende Energieeinsparung bieten. Da die Glastüren nicht mehr beheizt und die Türen weniger häufig nur zum Betrachten der Produkte geöffnet werden müssen, sinkt die Kompressorbelastung, die zum Ausgleich der beheizten Türen erforderlich ist.
