SABIC’s Lexan* LUX FR PC Grades Featuring Custom Diffusion and Optimal Luminance Help Light Engine’s LED Tubes Shine
GUANGZHOU, China – May 17, 2011 – Here at Chinaplas 2011, Booth 10.2E21, the Innovative Plastics strategic business unit of SABIC is shining a spotlight on its latest win: China-based Light Engine’s selection of customized Lexan* LUX high-diffusion resin grades to produce light-emitting diode (LED) tube lighting for its customer Optiled. Optiled is using newly commercialized Lexan LUX polycarbonate (PC) material for the covers of residential and office fixtures, shielding hot spots while delivering excellent light transmission. Breakthrough Lexan LUX resins provide a non-chlorinated, non-brominated flame retardant to meet the UL94 V0 standard at 1.5 mm in all colors; a choice of customizable diffusion levels or transparency; and excellent luminance. Innovative Plastics continues to lead the industry with superior solutions that help lighting customers meet changing regulatory and market demands.

SABIC Paints a Bright Future for Laser Direct Structuring with New Custom-Colorable LNP* Thermocomp* Compound
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – June 9, 2011 – The Innovative Plastics strategic business unit of SABIC announced at Chinaplas, the first new custom-colorable LNP* Thermocomp* thermoplastic compound for laser direct structuring (LDS) to save space and reduce the weight of mobile devices. LDS is a sophisticated process for integrating electronic and mechanical functionality into a single module, such as mobile phone and notebook antennas. Previously, only black plastic materials were available, typically forcing designers to confine LDS components to the device’s interior. The introduction of the company’s new colorable LNP Thermocomp compound vastly expands device design options. This new material introduction demonstrates Innovative Plastics’ pioneering leadership in advanced technologies for the design and manufacture of tomorrow’s portable devices.

SABIC Showcased at Chinaplas Industry Leadership in Validating PCR Claims to Help Customers Achieve Sustainability Goals
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – June 7, 2011 – At Chinaplas 2011, the Innovative Plastics strategic business unit of SABIC announced a new milestone in its expanding sustainability efforts to provide customers with a diverse portfolio of high-performance, environmentally responsible materials. Further evidencing its commitment to validating its ecological claims, the company is now one of the first to receive Environmental Claims Validation (ECV) from Underwriters Laboratories Environment (ULE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Underwriters Laboratories (UL®). Certification was given to Innovative Plastics’ new Noryl* RN0401 resin – which contains at least 20 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content – after successfully completed the demanding ULE validation process. This achievement represents another major step in Innovative Plastics’ pioneering efforts to support its customers’ sustainability programs with environmentally sound advanced materials solutions.

GUANGZHOU, China – May 19, 2011 – The all-new Range Rover Evoque is in the spotlight at SABIC’s Chinaplas 2011 booth (#10.2E21), underscoring the benefits of lightweight and environmentally responsible materials from the Innovative Plastics strategic business unit of SABIC. The luxurious new cross-coupe, with its compact footprint and advanced technologies, is described by Land Rover as a “step change in delivering reduced CO2 emissions.” Use of Innovative Plastics’ materials, combined with efficient design and attention to detail, contributed to a 35 percent overall weight reduction in the Evoque compared to Land Rover’s 2010 Range Rover Sport model. SABIC Expands Industry’s Broadest Polycarbonate Portfolio with the Introduction of SABIC® PC Resin

The new transparent PC resin features the same outstanding product quality that customers have come to expect from Innovative Plastics and is targeted for high-volume extrusion, custom compounding, general purpose and optical-quality applications. The material is manufactured at SABIC’s SAUDI KAYAN PC facility in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia and will be used to supply the fast growing Asia market, as well as the Middle East and Europe.
