SPS IPC DRIVES 2010

| Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, Nuremberg |
23 - 25 Nov 2010
SPS/IPC/DRIVES is the exhibition for electric automation technology. It covers all components down to the system and offers herewith integrated automation solutions. Exhibitors and visitors profit from the advantage that visiting numerous exhibitions on components becomes superfluous.

Redundancy with zero switchover time
Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product program to include Ethernet switches from the new RSP family. These are especially designed for use in the field-level networks of power supply companies, but they also can be used in any situation where uninterrupted communication is required, for instance for mechanical engineering projects or drives for production facilities. These extremely robust fanless switches have eleven ports, three of which can be used for SFP transceivers. These support Fast (100 BASE-FX) or – optionally – Gigabit Ethernet (100/1000 BASE-FX). The remaining eight ports can be used either for 100 BASE-TX or as a combination of four SFP transceivers and four TX ports. Additional features of these switches include comprehensive management, diagnostic and filter functions plus a variety of redundancy methods and markedly expanded security mechanisms. In addition to the standard configuration, Hirschmann™ also offers a version that supports highly precise synchronization compliant with IEEE 1588v2, plus PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) and HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy). This means that, for the first time, it is now possible to implement networks that guarantee uninterrupted data communications with the attached systems and can thus – in the case of the electricity supply industry – guarantee reliable power supplies to end customers at all times.

Quick-connection technology enables use of M12 cord sets
Belden has extended its range of Lumberg Automation™ products to include new Profibus DP connectors. These connectors each have a D-Sub and M12 interface, and are offered with 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlets. All versions support data rates of up to 12 Mbit/s and feature a compact die-cast zinc housing with test socket and activatable terminating resistor. They also boast quick-connection technology that enables Profibus DP devices to be connected with M12 Profibus cord sets simply and securely without the use of tools. The advantage of this, for example, is reduced downtimes of machinery and equipment when faults occur, increasing production efficiency.

AS-Interface modules with encapsulated PUR housing and high signal density
Belden has introduced two new AS-Interface modules from its Lumberg Automation™ product range, one of which can be coupled to the actuator/sensor network with round cables, the other with flat cables. For this purpose, the modules feature either an integrated T-piece functionality or piercing contacts. Both versions are slave modules with four digital inputs for two- or three-wire sensors and four digital outputs for standard actuators. Two inputs and two outputs are Y-connected. Since both modules support the latest AS-Interface profile in accordance with AS-Interface specification V3.0, up to 1,000 digital inputs/outputs can be connected. Compared to the previous versions, signal density has therefore more than doubled. What is more, the new modules feature a fully encapsulated PUR housing that is highly resistant to cooling lubricants from machine tools, for example.

Flexible network connection for intelligent automation devices
Belden has added a new embedded Ethernet module (EEM) to its Hirschmann™ product range. The new module – which is available as a Profinet I/O device, EtherNet/IP adapter device or EtherCAT slave controller – grants Ethernet access to intelligent automation devices, or enables them to be integrated in network management systems. All models of the EEM are equipped with a switch for two external Fast Ethernet ports, and one internal port to the host CPU. The latter, which has a 50-pole plug connector, can be used to connect the host CPU of the automation device to the CPU of the EEM. Since data communication is via a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), the functionality of the EEM can be adapted to meet customer requirements or technological change without the need to alter the hardware. This makes the new module a practical and versatile option for connecting intelligent automation devices such as motor starters, frequency converters, or sensors to Ethernet networks.

Robust unmanaged 10-port switch
Belden has extended the familiar OCTOPUS range in its Hirschmann™ product series to include a new unmanaged Fast Ethernet switch. This switch, which also supports automation protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, possesses ten twisted-pair ports (10/100 BASE-TX) with vibration-proof M12 connections with D-coding. The unit’s additional features include a robust, fire-proof, die-cast housing, protection class IP54 and a temperature range from 40° to +70°C. This switch also complies with all relevant industry standards and is approved for use in road and rail vehicles and ships. This makes it particularly suitable for use in small-scale networks in transport, manufacturing and process automation where management functions are not required.

High contact density despite compact dimensions
Belden has extended its Lumberg Automation™ product range with the world's first eight-pole M8 actuator/sensor connectors. These connectors, which fulfill all requirements for shock and vibration resistance, are being offered in two variants with molded cables as well as in three field-attachable installation variants. All variants are designed for a temperature range of between -25° and +80°C, and, when screwed together with the appropriate counterparts, meet the requirements of protection type IP67. Owing to the high contact density, up to eight signals can be transmitted with an external power supply, making the new eight-pole M8 actuator/sensor connector especially suitable for connecting optoelectronic sensors or safety switches of the kind used, for example, for monitoring safety doors on machines and systems.

16 PoE/PoE Plus ports per switch
Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product series to include a new PoE/PoE Plus module for Workgroup switches in the MACH100 range. This module, which possesses eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX), provides each attached terminal with either 15.4 W (PoE) or 30 W (PoE Plus). The power supply 48 V DC (for PoE) or 52 V DC (for PoE Plus) comes from an external power supply unit. For each MACH100 switch two modules can be used with a total of 16 ports. With PoE Plus, each module can use four ports. It is also possible to operate PoE and PoE Plus ports simultaneously up to a total power of 120 W. This means that the new module offers considerable flexibility. PoE Plus can also be used to power relatively high-rated terminal equipment such as IP cameras with pan-tilt-zoom, Voice over IP videophones or multiband WLAN access points.
