Milliken Hyperform® Nucleation Technology Confirms Major Improvements in Polyethylene
Ghent, Belgium – 11 January 2011 – Milliken, a division of Milliken & Company, has overcome one of the toughest challenges in the plastics industry – successful nucleation of polyethylene (PE). Hyperform® HPN-20E, currently the most efficient PE nucleation agent available globally enables higher peak crystallization temperatures that can cut cycle times and drive productivity improvements of 10 to 20 percent (depending upon processing and resin design). It can also increase oxygen and water vapor barrier performance between 20 to 40 percent (depending upon processing and resin design) providing the possibility of extended shelf life of perishable contents such as dry foods, dairy products, vitamins and nutraceuticals. Hyperform HPN-20E and other upcoming Milliken nucleation solutions support sustainability by enabling broader use of PE, an easily recycled plastic, in diverse packaging applications.

AKULON FUEL LOCK FROM DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS PROMOTES CLEANER AIR BY MINIMIZING EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS FROM FUEL TANKS
DSM Engineering Plastics has launched a unique new material that can make a significant contribution to air quality. Akulon® Fuel Lock, a mono-polyamide 6 technology, dramatically reduces evaporative emissions from the fuel tanks of non-road outdoor equipment and vehicles with small, spark-ignition engines. In fact, tests of a tank with a nominal 2 mm wall thickness molded from Akulon Fuel Lock showed an exceptionally low evaporative emission rate less than 20 percent of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation limit.

DSM ENGINEERING PLASTICS LAUNCHES 5 NEW GRADES OF ITS BIO-BASED ECOPAXX RESIN
Last year DSM Engineering Plastics introduced EcoPaXX™, a bio-based, high performance engineering plastic. EcoPaXX is a polyamide (PA) 410, and belongs to the family of the “long-chain polyamides”. It pairs typical long-chain polyamide properties, such as low moisture absorption and excellent chemical resistance, with high melting point (highest of all bio-based polyamides: ca. 250oC, see graph: melting point of bio-based polyamides as function of amide bond density) and high crystallization rate (typical for engineering plastics such as Akulon PA66 and Stanyl PA 46). It combines the best of both worlds and is therefore suitable for many high-tech applications.

Ltd. announce that they have reached a definitive agreement to establish a joint venture to manufacture and sell Thioester antioxidants. The new company will be named Songwon Baifu Chemical Co. Ltd. and will be operational effective Q1, 2011, subject to all necessary legal approvals. The new company will have a capacity of 6.000 tons of Thioester antioxidants. Songwon will initially own a 30% share of the new company with the option to expand its shareholding to 50%. The joint venture will sell the Thioester products directly to the Chinese market, however, it will use the Songwon global network for all sales outside of China.

Songwon Group announces a positive performance for Q1 2010
Ulsan, Korea – June 10, 2010 - Songwon Group, a leading global supplier of additives and other chemicals to the plastic industry, announces a net profit of KRW 6.3 Billion for the first Quarter of 2010. Sales were up 9%, compared to the fourth quarter 2009, driven again by a significant increase in sales volumes and a positive price development. Operating Income is up by about 10% also driven by sales volumes, price gains and a favorable product mix. Both results have been achieved despite significantly unfavorable effects of currency and raw material prices.
